Well the 914 is officially home. And now it is in the shop haha. But that was the plan all along. It is DEFINITELY a project, maybe more than wanted, but should know soon enough... It runs and drives, but does neither very well. Body and interior work definitely needed, and possibly some frame.
'cos here in England they're going into silly money territory, sucked in by the aircooled 911 vacuum. I didn't understand the 914 first time around and though I can now see the appeal but would rather put the money into a 928 (at quite the opposite end of the simplicity - complexity spectrum). It may be worth restating for our American readers that our basically maritime climate means that old cars just rust away.

I think the lines of the 912 in the photo above are much improved over the original.. The windscreen has been lowered and swept back and once the right headlamp and the doors are duct taped into place, the car should have reduced wind resistance.

Wow what a collection! Odd group of cars! I am on the hunt for buying an 86'-89' Mercedes 300e or 300ce after way over 100 hours of research I deem it to be the best overall car from the era.
I would opt for the CE. Previous owners should have been more careful with the coupe version, and the pillarless side profile is very cool.
It's an acquired taste. Most people prefer the regular four door DS, but the break is so much more special, odd, rare, amazing. Very practical too as it is a seven seater. The triple nipple rear lights on the finned wings are especially cool.
not sure where you are based - but money no object don't forget about the 500E - just sold my 280E W124, and had a E300 coupe before that. If If go W124 again it will be a 500E.
Oregon, looking for a fun daily out of the whole deal. I love Mercedes past words. I love the 500e with the wheel arches and giant V8, but my concern is increased maintenance of owning sort of a unicorn. The 400e is cheaper and offers some of the same features. I wish I could buy a Hammer, but I don't think prices are staying reasonable... I have also heard that the 300e's M103 engine is smoother and quieter than the rest.
