Authenticity of potential OMEGA 2849 3 SC

Dear Omega Forum,

I am looking to purchase my first real watch, and I am currently looking for a vintage watch. This is due to the relative lower price, as well as the history behind the watch.

I have been searched throughout the forum to provide an answer, as well as OMEGA's official vintage database, however with no luck. I hope you can help!

I can not identify the work as 503. Seller claims it's a 2849, year 1957. It seems very polished, and I Seller has informed that glass/plastic has been changed. Watch was listed at $800, I offered half of that amount. Watch seems authentic, however, I do not believe it is a genuine 2849 from 1957. I am concerned whether it is a fix-up of different parts, and that the watch will not function properly. What do you think? Thank you in advance!

... both the hands and dial have been resumed. I think the dial is otherwise original.

Probably a dumb question. But what do you mean by saying that the dial & hands have been resumed?

Not sure why you would think that this is not a Ref. 2849?

Movement and case matches the Database.

I agree that it has been polished, the crown needs replacement and both the hands and dial have been resumed. I think the dial is otherwise original.

IMO, you made a fair offer for the watch in that condition.

Good luck,

I was referring to the movement. I can't seem to identify the cal 503. Thank you for your response!

Looks decent but it will need a bezel as it looks like it is missing.

I believe he meant 'relumed'

Yes, and it'd be about impossible to find that gold bezel.

I assume that the watch, without the bezel, is not waterproof? What would a fair price be for this watch?

Since bezel is missing, it is worth the parts, 60 euros for the case + 90 euro for the mvt + 60 euros for the dial and hands = 190 euros (lot price), if you can live with it.

Thanks for the reply. Well, I have absolutely no experience with restoring watches, so I guess I'll have to keep searching.

Steel bezel is available, so one option would be to get that and have it plated. There are also people who can make a bezel if needed...
