Taking the day off work today and wandered past Vancouver’s Marine Building that was built in 1930. The images on the exterior are super fun,

and what an entrance

… and I’ve only made it 30ft into the building

Obligatory wrist shot, definitely not Art Deco 😗

Many of these great Art Deco timepieces have fixed bars and I have found it difficult finding suitable ‘open’ straps (that can be glued together), especially of the dainty sizes required for watches of the period. I came across the dealer Ship$hape on eBay, and they have many open (and closed) straps in a wide array of types (croc, snake, patterned, etc). I’m currently affixing an NOS 14mm ‘Rainbow’ Hirsch strap, which has a snakeskin finish and a deep burgundy colour to complement the rose gold, on my Cyma.

NB the dealer also has a range of watch bracelets, etc. plus old camera parts and accessories.

Some more Illinois:

Square Cut Corner circa 1928 in solid 14k (very rarely found in 14k - usually gold filled):

Illinois Beau Monde circa 1930 powered a 21 jewel motor barrel movement - the best movement Illinois ever made. The case is curved, conforms to the wrist, and for some reason makes me think of the C-shaped Constellations of 40 years later:

Ace circa 1928:

Atlantic circa 1927 (refinished dial):

The Beau Monde reminds me of a more upscale Hamilton Perry, and those gold numerals are outstanding!

While not really considered an architectural hotbed, Oklahoma has assume good examples of Art Deco structures. This is the Boston Avenue Methodist church in down town Tulsa. I drive by this one fairly often because my best friend lives about two minutes away from it.
