I am really glad I found this thread.

I am not sure whether any of these are Art Deco but there we are.

I don't think I have worn any of these in the last decade. I haven't even seem many of these in over a year - it took me a bit to find in the drawer.

😲😲😲

Yikes - you do, too! 😀

I have two of them. The one I posted and one back in Melbourne. I think the later has the same design as the one in the picture with the exception of the hands that I recall are leaf hands - I always wondered whether they were replacements.

Very nice watches.
The Gruen is a typical *post* art deco 1940s watch but the other three I would most definitely call art deco👍

Ever had someone say to you, I have a bunch of old watches, would you take a look at them? You politely try to hide the grimace when they hand you a bunch of "old" quartz crud to inspect.

I'm not a clock person, but it was clocks I was asked about this time, you can have them if you want them...

Well, sometimes being the neighbor with all of the watches pays off.

I love art deco clocks.

I have a Jughans Meister clock that I love. It is back in Melbourne and I couldn't find a similar picture online. Of course it doesn't keep time well enough for practical purposes but it is beautiful. I need to polish the brass otherwise it gets spots.

It all reminds me a little of Poirot.

No watch IMO will make anyone look any more or any less stylish or sexy or classy than they are without the watch.
People IMHO are mistaken if they are counting on a watch to make them more attractive, or if they think a cord watch will make a woman look like her aunt Gertrude if that’s not the vibe she gives out.
My two cents worth.

Say it isn't so Syrte!!!

I sure was hopin' that a Rolex Sub would do the trick, and make me look more like a "man of action."

Perhaps I ought to just go for the cord on a watch in order to accentuate the aunt Gertrude vibe.

Hey, it'd save me a few cents.

You’re such a good sport, I had a sneaky suspicion my comments were not going to make me any friends — but hey, aunt Gertrude totally deserves someone standing up for her.
You get the prize for being bold and forward thinking 😀

Neato! Someone else here has a Jefferson Golden Hour clock.

Here’s a vintage advert from 1929 which I just found at an outdoors seller- despite our new semi lockdown they’re still allowed to operate. This is not the first advert or catalogue I’ve seen on which the new streamlined, angular style which is art deco is called « modern ».

This is my example of Art Deco architecture - many a Saturday morning spent here watching old Flash Gordon movies, etc. It used to be the Rayners Lane Odeon cinema, and there were three similar versions. Sadly one was demolished and the other was covered by cladding in the 70s.

Also, how would you describe this pocket watch? It’s too floral for Art Deco I feel, maybe I could start a ‘Chintz’ watch thread 😉

Just arrived

That’s a really crazy watch.

Ornate.
I know, ornate is not a period or style, but that's how I would call it. 😀

All beautiful, I especially like the white-dialed Longines, the steps on the outside are very art deco in style.
