Barcelona
, the city where I have been living 27 years already, is famous for many things but unfortunately not for its art deco. However, some details can be found here and there:

The art deco former MLC Building on Sydney's Martin Place, opened in 1938. Note the Rolex shop on the ground floor.

I picked this early travel clock up yesterday at an estate sale.
It's from the 1939 Worlds Fair in NY.
It measures approx 1 5/8" X 1 1/2". Once you slide it most of the way of its case the case then acts as a stand so I'm thinking it's an early travel clock (?)
So far it's kept ticking since giving it a few winds. I'm not sure how to set the time, though. The crystal can be taken off and that may be how the hands are set.
Hard to believe it's 80 years old, it looks great!

That's a nice clock, doesn't the crown pull up to set the hands, like a pocket watch?

I thought it would but after giving it a convincing pull it didn't budge. I don't want to damage it so I plan on taking it to my watchmaker next week to have him look at it.
I also picked up a nice Hamilton Railway Special 992B pocket watch in like-new condition (seriously, very very well cared for pieces)
All in all I got 3 watches and a few other odds and ends for $40... not bad at all 😀

That’s the right price. Most of that stuff was cheaply made so don’t expect a great movement inside

Did you dispose of your mask and gun yet?

I didn't expect the Worlds Fair clock to be worth anything, I bought it because I like the deco style and it caught my eye.
But the Hamilton is worth much more than $40 itself.

There was a time when people wanted that stuff but for the most part, those days have passed. It’s still cool though

That’s a wonderful find— worth bringing to a watchmaker to figure out how to set it!

Oh and by the way @me1969 : dibs!

I'm headed there in a few weeks to pick up a Longines he's servicing for me and I'll have the Worlds Fair clock with me 😀
