This is my place of employment and residence. I work in these surroundings every day. The Kingswood building at Cranbrook Schools, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The campus was designed by Eliel Saarinen. The exterior: On the other side of the grounds, the place where I'm eating dinner tonight: I absolutely love this thread ... it's enriching to see how surrounded we are by such a wonderful design ethos, in everything from watches to cars to buildings.
@bubba48 it seems we might be lucky to see a big chunk of your collection on this art deco thread !! Since I don’t want to spoil the fun I won’t tell anyone where they can find the other half
I think this qualifies as an Art Deco dial, no? Typical european 1940s pocket watch dial and handset.
I knew I had another picture somewhere... an Helvetia with a strange half antishock device (half because it is only on the bridge side - or only on the baseplate, I don't remember)
Here’s a building @François Pépin ! Which someone posted on Instagram, apparently from Singapore.... And then I found some snapshots I had taken a couple years ago of the famous entertainment hall « Les Folies Bergeres ». If that ain’t art deco, i don’t know what is...
An invitation to the B. Altman 20th Century exhibit from September 1928. This was a landmark event in New York and featured all Moderne design. It is made of velvet card stock and produced in France. Can’t imagine there are many around
I always felt (wrongly maybe?) that the Contax line of cameras had something art deco about it; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age: I'll go burn a roll with one of them these days. A Zeiss Ikon advert : More obviously art deco is the rolleicord: (gave one like those for a friends 30th birthday)
That Capital Theater is definitely in Singapore. It is still a theater, and the area around has been redeveloped into a great outdoor/indoor beer garden and food place. Recommended if anyone passes through the city.
