Arriving soon. While I generally do not appreciate what is often called "patina" on the dial, in this particular case it still is OK for me. The movement photo is not really presentable, but looking at it nevertheless reveils at least 17, presumably 19, jewels and overcoil hairspring, apparently a high grade movement. The case is 18K.
This old Seiko 6159-7010 arrived today and I’m very pleased with it- I use a modern one for work that I picked up a few years ago and always fancied an original one .
compared to the modern one it’s a big watch!
I have been passively on the hunt for a Revue-Sport for 4 years. These are hard to find in preserved condition. I am so happy my hunt is over with the best example I have ever seen. My leaf blued hand Wittnauer has a brother now.
New addition to the collection and my first Longines. Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39mm in black. This is going to be my GADA daily wear. Super readable dial and not too big at 39mm.
What is the story behind the phrase "Zulu Time"? I am aware that "Zulu" stands for "z" in the international alphabet.
My understanding is that Zulu Time is the same as UTC. I'm guessing UTC is the civilian reference while Zulu Time is how the military refers to UTC. That was my recollection when I looked it up.
Since this is a pilot watch, I'm guessing Zulu Time has a better ring than UTC from a marketing perspective.
I actually do have the GMT hand set to UTC as well.
I was curious as to how Swatch chronos are put together. These things are ginormous. Who wears such bling? I thought they would be ladies sizes with those rhinestones. I missed out on several others for twice the price. Probably just as well. I still have that 1.4 lb box of ginormous goodwill chronos with mostly fake pushers. At least these two swatches were cheap at 10 bucks apiece + S&H.
It looks like the bezels may be detachable which could make things interesting. I am still looking for cheap cases for my Landeron 48s. As I have noted while Frankenstien's creature had a bad brain, it did have a good heart. Mod swatches here I come ...
I almost bid on A broken moonswatch but opted for these instead. First broken moonswatch I have seen. Probably best to wait. Eventually these will become landfill or be like the above watches. I actually do like the black swatch above It has a Speedmaster style sweep hand. black on black though makes it invisible. The traditional "vintage" buttons are nice.
For posterity here is the link to the swatch I did NOT bid on.
Arrived today. I personally love these, most others really dislike them. I like them, because nobody would nowadays guess that it is a Rolex. Kind of a anti-Rolex Rolex 😁.
Double advantage for me: They are nice AND they are cheap (three figure range). Ticking happily and precisely sind this morning on my desk. Cal. 710, Ref. 6282.
