This arrived today from France: an 18K gold Cal. Suisse chronograph with a Venus 188 movement, made some time in the early 1950s.

The vendor's pics did not do it justice. Neither do mine, as I am still trying to work out how best to get the black dial details. I am not a general collector of vintage watches, but this one and a similar chrono with a gorgeous ivory dial led me astray. They make a nice pair.

Here's my latest auction acquisition. It's only 30mm, so it'll go to my 16yo daughter (who I've brainwashed with my obsession) but for only nz$295/~us$210 for solid 9ct I figured it was a reasonable punt!

My newest arrival is this unusually cased Helvetia pilots watch from 1940. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

It comes from Bosnia and originally had 'Army Property' marked on the dial as does one of the other four examples I've found since I started looking. They have all had a bottom lug manufactured for them though.

It's a good day when two turn up! The gold rotary was advertised as 30mm, but is actually 33mm and wears larger, so my daughter may NOT end up getting it! And the c-case 168 was a punt via eBay Japan that paid off nicely. (Yes, I know the bracelet is for the later generation but I had it as a spare, better than the cheap leatheroid it came with).

Arrived today, purchased as a gift for one of our daughters but to be honest I am beginning to hope she doesn't take to it 🤦

Just picked up from AD today, haven't even sized it yet. It was supposed to be a batman. To be honest I prefer the BB Pepsi, looks way more toolish which is my style

Took a chance on this 1961 Eternamatic with gray no-lume dial. Let's see what arrives.

Pretty little thing!

Continuing the consolidation of my little chrono collection, I just made an offer on this and it was accepted:

It is a 3133-powered reissue from the 2010s of the famous Strela, which is a pretty but unfortunately a bit flimsy (plated case, non antishock, no WR at all) legendary soviet chrono. My original:

Some auction finds. The Smiths and one of the Tissots will be sold to part pay for the Certina ( which I love). By doing it like this the Certina should be almost a beer money watch!

I was away on a business trip last week with no intentions of purchasing anything other than trinkets for the kids. Ended up bringing this home and a please don't kill me gift for the wife.

So, what works as a “please don't kill me gift for the wife”? Asking for a friend.

I gifted her generous amounts of jewellery enough to make her equally as guilty.
