So the SM GMT 50th arrived (2534.50) yesterday after a week at PF customs, and it has a failed hour wheel. My local indie is repairing it and adding my all black bezel insert. Now I have to seek some sort of recourse with the seller. I would return it, but that means t least two weeks of postal faff, P&P and customs costs.

A while before it touches down, 1st year issue Gen 2

edit: Breaking news, decided now was as good a time as any to confess to Lady 'A' of another indiscretion on my part but the watch gods are obviously looking after me as much to my surprise she loves this piece, hopefully not to much 馃

Could not pass this up... one hell of a book. (And Omega is not even my brand of choice).
So what watch brand do you lean towards?

Some days bring more than others....
I went to a Watch fair and found two little well preserved pre-1950 watches :
This 23.4SC ref MI 2089 from around 1941 :

And this 26.5 SOB T3 ref unknown (maybe a CK 2082?) from around 1943 :

And just when I went back home, I found thet the post office had delivered this beautiful CK679 'Marine' bought here on the forum from Kyle :

I need to slow down before my speedy 60th anniversary arrives!

When the good lady came along more than forty years ago I quickly realised there would be no other for me 馃グ

Well, the gold half sovereign found last week has now become a stainless steel Seamaster 166.0209 .... which currently tells the time about as well as that coin did.

Filthy, covered in scratches, refuses to move .... but enough about me, here's the watch:

So, it's got a 1020 inside ... but the case and dial are great as is the bracelet. The watch has obviously been well protected by the layers of gunk covering every surface.

I stumbled across this on eBay, in a listing that didn't show up in my saved search. Not as pristine as darlingboy's, but it was serviced the end of last year and has all its links.

"It reminds me of the heady days of Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin when the world trembled at the sound of our rockets. Now they will tremble again - at the sound of our mechanical watches. The order is: engage the alarm drive!"

Sometimes the really rare and historic important watches still fly under the radar.
Got this today from an auction aftersales!

Has the watch a poorly restored dial?: Yes
Is the goldplated/-filled case hardly worn?: Yes

Are this reasons not to buy this watch? Definitely NOT!!

Why? Because inside is one of the earliest and for sure most rarest automatic watch movements ever!

OK. I give up. First thing that came to mind was, "How the heck does that corkscrew work?"

Looks like a horror contraption from .......
Or could be a case opener?
