As I mentioned before, while on vacation last week, I got bored and a little crazy. This just arrived from the land of cheese, sheep, banks and watches. Didn't realize it needs a 22m strap so I'm stuck looking at it versus wearing it!
I didn't buy this one. It literally fell into my lap. My brother and I were cleaning out my mom's house, and he came across this: Apparently, from the engraving on the back, in 1938, the watch was given as a gift to Helen Jane Phillips Breckinridge, who was the mother of my mom's second husband. (Helen Jane was the daughter of Waite Phillips, the petroleum businessman and Tulsa philanthropist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waite_Phillips) A Didisheim Goldschmidt Fils & Co. movement, 'Cord' pin watch. Quite small at 14x21mm, it's a clip-on. @Mad Dog might fancy this one, as you could quite easily 'triple-dog' with it .. Here's my first 'wear', a simple, fashionable, 'Double-Dog', by dougiedude: Now if I could only get the movement to run again...
@dougiedude Saw the lovely 1930s dial and was already sold but the provenance and clip-on case are just fantastic. The "Fab. Suisse" is a neat detail too. Also, it is in really good condition. Such a great piece of both personal and historical value. Thanks for sharing. Edit: Looking at the marks on the front of the case, I wonder if they are original. It also appears as though the chrome plating is absent from these areas. Maybe the marks served some purpose.
I have made a rather uneducated offer on this watch and the seller accepted. I was wondering if you knew where i can found more information about it or if anything stands out from the ad . IWC International Watch Company Dress Watch in 18K gold. Gorgeous Timeless classics. Absolute beauty. The famous caliber 852 with the Pellaton winding system. One of the best caliber ever built in Switzerland. Technically and visually a beauty and extremely accurate and reliable. Enlarge the version, diameter without crown 36mm measured. The dial is perfect and processed at the highest level. The housing is completely solid 18K yellow gold and massive gold-provoking. A great classic and a good investment. This condition is very difficult to find. The IWC was completely disassembled, washed and cleaned from my watchmaker. Delivered Neutral leather strap, buckle neutral and Watch Box.
Sorry for being a bit rude But as a rule of thumb, avoid watches with cases like this. I know next to nothing about IWC, but I know that no watch case should look that slick.
Well, i was asking for it , with such a request and i managed to cover all three ( ignorance, foolishness and greed). He was asking 2250 , i offered 1750 and he accepted. I will take education in any for or shape it comes so , thank you
Probably the last buy of the year, but who knows what may happen when Christmas, boredom and booze combine. A pretty rare Brietling from the early 80's, I believe only made for a couple of years and then superseded by the pluton.
( ) I'm actually looking at art deco advertising material and furniture at the moment. Some really exciting stuff! Certainly more fun than the slightly dreary mid-century modern that is completely ubiquitous at the moment...
Visit to a auction house today with the purpose of bidding on a piece of antique furniture which went way to high but when these two pieces came up and with the room being pretty empty decided on a wee punt and as they say the rest is history. In need of a good clean but they are running to time after almost five hours so promising, the Geneve will have to go as a matching one resides already in the safe but the saleroom experience was enjoyable after a long time away from the chase. A couple of as found images in poor light, both 9ct and one 9ct buckle with one original box and guarantee card.
A nice 2 watch carrying case. Now I don't need to quintuple-dog or leave them loose in a bag when I travel!
Got my hands on this little batch of watch related goodies, plus two little bottles filled with tons of old watch crowns
Got an old Omega box for my old Omega. I don't think it's the correct box for the watch, but it is old and say's Omega on it
