A very big "wristwatch" landed with my watchmaker today. Initial inspection given thumbs-up.

Should I replace the crystal or not? Leaning towards having it replaced, and the old one stored safely.

A 27mm handmade strap have been ordered. Need to try it on although this will, at 55mm diameter (without the wide 7mm crown), never be a daily beater!

A quick lub and clean will be needed.
The movement on the Stowa B-uhr is really stunning looking. Compared to the IWC and A. Lange & S枚hne the Stowa is surely the better looking IMHO (Unitas cal 2812):
A stupendous piece and a beautiful movement. I look forward to seeing even deeper inside thanks to Christian and his fantastic site. 馃榿

I'll need to be like that if I want to budget for getting my first really good piece...or servicing the ones I have!

I'm going to break the rules a little and post what I bought in the past two months. To my credit the last one arrived today.
First a little back story;
I started my relationship with Omega in 2008 when my wife bought me a Seamaster Pro for Father's Day. And until last month that was the only Omega watch I owed. I joined OF a little over a year and half ago looking for a PO. And then I was exposed to a whole new world, that I knew little to nothing about. I wanted a lot more then just a PO after that. So I started building my want list and researching. Then this year I freed up some funds and starting pulling the trigger.
First came a speedy pro "chocolate sapphire sandwich" on a brown strap.
I wanted a speedy pro that was a little different, but didn't want to pay LE prices.

Next I wanted to dip my toes into the vintage pool, so I picked up a 14381 Constellation. I added an Omega alligator strap and buckle from Ofrei. Not period correct or vintage, but it suited my needs as an occasional dress wach.
After that I really thought I was done for a while. My collection had tripled, so I was fairly satisfied. And then someone had to list the watch I having been lusting after ever since I laid eyes on it. My "if I could only have one watch" watch.
A Seamaster PO LM LE
Needless to saying I am done for little while. The last one is going to cost me a pretty penny with the wife.

P.S. Please excuse the crappy iPhone pics.

Yeah she mentioned something along the lines of 3 carats....and I found something to do in the other room. Don't know how long I am going to be able to dodge that bullet.

I feel your pain, I hope your next picture is not one of your nice pieces next to a 3 carat stone!

I almost succumbed to the inevitable and then I read a thread, that spanned over 2 years, started by @dsio about his Gemini IV LE. Truly inspiring watch and thread. So I don't know how I am going to do it yet, but I am going to somehow avoid buying the 3 carat stone (because that's rediculously big anyways) and somehow purchase a Gemini IV LE. Wish me luck gentlemen.

Following in the footsteps of some other members I believe this will be my last purchase for a while...(cough cough itchy keyboard happy fingers)

Aside: As a new(ish) collector, would there be any threads regarding how to budget for watch collecting?

Um...since most of us only have one kidney left, and cannot claim our first born as dependants anymore, I'd say that we aren't the best people to ask.

In all honestly, budgeting for collecting is all about what works for you. Buy what you can afford, and what you enjoy.

To newish collectors, I always say that no matter what you collect, just make sure that it is the best example you can find.

Good collectors appreciate others passion, and not necessarily the rarity or value of their pieces.

While some on this board steadfastly disagree, I fund all of my purchases by buying and selling. The profits that I make set my budget, and I am constantly trading up. While not for everyone, it is a great way to stretch your budget and get into watches that would normally be out of your price range.
