I finally had some resolution on a Speedmaster Auto that I bought "restored" It wasn't anywhere near as advertised. I worked with the seller and Christian for a couple of weeks to get it fixed, but in the end, the case was too pitted to seal against leakage in the test fixture. So the seller agreed to refund. Instead of the reduced, I pulled the trigger on the Pro. The tension while I wait for it to arrive is already killing me.

This is a bit different, ref. 1806 with Morellis finish, ca. 1963. Seller's pic. Not your typical Day-Date!

Today I ordered one of these. It should arrive in the next 7-10 days from a seller on the US East Coast. I tried ordering directly from an AD in Russia but every credit card I tried using for a Russian purchase was (surprise!) shut down on the spot. Buying from a US seller meant I had a much smaller range of models to choose from.

Since I plan on actually using this watch for diving I wanted a watch with a rubber strap, but due to my limited choices I was forced to get a model with a steel bracelet. It's hard to imagine that a steel bracelet for a $60 watch is going to amount to much. Fortunately, I found this $65 Seiko strap on sale for $15 so I ordered it, too.

Why did I decide to buy this watch? After viewing this video posted by @PatrickJ in another thread, I was instantly sold on the watch. I'm an engineer by training and profession and was thoroughly impressed by the thought that went into the original design. The way the designers used the engineering properties of plexiglass and steel to enhance the watch's waterproofness while at the same time simplifying its design, was pure genius. Thanks @PatrickJ for the heads up!

Longines still has me in it's thrall; I found this cal.291 Conquest in very good to excellent condition:

This is my penultimate watch of 2015. Tomorrow's mail should have a Vulcain Cricket that is very close to mint.

You made the right choice on the pro over the automatic. You will realise why in the comming weeks and months.

God bless you. I am wearing mine as we speak. It takes some getting used to when you adjust the time, the wobble in the crown is a feature of the watch when setting the time it is a clutch mechanism so no worries. Go on you tube check out matt stevens, adriqos, distinguished gentleman, simon crane everyone loves it. So many reviews and videos on it. For a beater it is a true usable dive watch. The pkexiglass like our moonwatch and vintage Omega can have scratches polished out etc... It just works, officially the time keeping is not supposed to be fantastic but I have two vostok. One is +6 a day and the other +2a day with no adjustments my moonwatch is +5 a day. Anyway you know this already, enjoy.

Today I received my most probably last purchase of 2015:

20151231_00230.jpg

This is an Enicar Sherpa GUIDE ref. 148-35-01 with an automatic movement cal. AR 1146.

I was somewhat surprised by the strong presence of this relatively large watch (43 mm diameter, 21 mm lug width).

I love this combination of visual indicators grouped around the gorgeous champagne dial,

There is quite a bit work to be done on hands, crystal, and case to let the watch shine again - next year.

Happy New Year to all,

Mick

Bought a 145.022-69 slight project a week ago that will finish out the purchases for the year. It needs a proper period correct bezel and sweep second hand. Will post better pix and of movement upon receipt next week! Speedy experts, please tell me what else is wrong that my untrained eye might have missed? Also comes with a brand new 1171/1 w/633 end pieces (that I may flip).

Nice pickup!

The lower pusher looks like it might be wrong, too long.

I'll take the 633 ends if they're on the market.. 馃槈. (if they're the vintage ones)

Thanks! I agree on the pusher, noticed that too but wasn't too concerned about that given condition of dial and case. The 633s are also new unfortunately (Or I'd for sure be keeping!)

I have my eye on a jb champion NASA (Or the forstner komfit) that this forum has gotten me to fall in love with! Enablers enable!

With such exalted company today I must admit to second thoughts about posting.
My last of the year is what it is, Seiko engined so nothing so wrong with that. Case size of 36.5mm with good lume and the magic words that any true Scotsman loves to hear, inexpensive 馃榿

Uh, oh! If @Alpha says that I'm in trouble! Do I dare go back and look?

Naw, I'm pleased with this; a close to mint (some light scratches on the caseback/resonator) Vulcain Cricket - a beautiful shimmery dial, classic lines and - since a windup bedside alarm in my teens - my first mechanical alarm.

What a little beauty! A great finale for me to 2015.
