If that was addressed at me... Seller listed as Stainless, but the writing on the back cover would either indicate that you might be correct that it is white gold plated or, as I was thinking, that might not be the original back cover. For the price (approx. $200), I was OK with that (watch had sold once before for $110 more).
Just picked this up off eBay for a very good price. looks very nice... A reference 9024-2 with a cal. 294 from ~ 1959 With original scalloped crown Lacquer in the medallion is mostly gone but looks unpolished and in very good condition otherwise looking forward to getting this cleaned up and into the rotation!
Maybe the fresh look of an inexpensive Eastern Bloc (possible franken) watch with a redial done to suggest it's a quality watch from Glashütte? Oh dear, the Ukraine strikes again. Anyway, continuing on my selective purchasing pattern, going with 2 1995 French bottles - a Burgundy and a Bordeaux:
Ouch... and might I say a bit of a jump to conclusion with zero facts behind you. I didn't buy this from some yutz in Ukraine and have a bit more sense than that in my watch collecting, noob here or not, thanks. Wouldn't normally do this, but I'm pasting the link below from the auction to read for yourself (if you care to). Seller, from Minnesota (which last I checked is not in Ukraine) has a sterling rep (his 1 negative looks totally bogus actually) and has regularly sold what look like some damn nice, unique original watches (or I really don't know what I'm looking at and he sells a ton of Ukraine specials from Minny.) If what Seller says about himself and his collection/purchasing of only watches with original dials carries any truth, then you're way off base. GUB Glashutte certainly was the name of the brand at that time (1950s) and, to the best of my limited knowledge, was not the high end maker of now at all. (I have a few German Stowas from this period too, also not to the same quality as a Stowa of today) The movement in this particular watch is quite typical for GUB watches of that time. So, forgive me, but I respectfully disagree with your comment. However, at the end of the day you could certainly be right and I'll find out when the watch arrives that Seller is a shady thief. That said, I'd be surprised if there aren't others on here that haven't at least bid on something from Ebay seller "rarevintagewatches" before. Perhaps they have and there's some thread I don't know of on here calling this guy out, but he offers a 14 day, no questions asked return policy. So if you are indeed right, this goes back to Mound, Ukraine, rather Minnesota, and it cost me $15 shipping back and forth (or one less leather or NATO strap that I don't really need.) Believe whatever you wish. It might be even worse than a redial - it might be a franken. I wish I had a quarter for every time a n00b wanted so desperately to believe he mined a gem that he wouldn't listen to anyone else. Enjoy it!
I didn't feel or say that I mined a gem at all and I have been collecting for some time... Noob only in the sense of active on this site. I'll send you .25 for your collection. Did you read the auction I linked? Look at other items from the seller that he's selling/sold? I'm asking a legit question to draw from your experience that according to you I apparently lack and really am curious re an educated opinion (with the auction listing, seller info, other items, etc) after your initial trashing. Do you think everything this guy has been selling is b.s.? I have a return period so I really am asking, not trying to argue or being snippy. Thx.
