The one on the right is made by Lark distillery, which also makes excellent whiskey.

Bought a few Lark whiskey single barrels over the years.

Mighty fine drop, they are getting a bit expensive lately but.

I have learnt a neat trick from Chrono24:
In order for the seller to validate that he has the watch "in hands" ask to have two photos of the watch with the hands set at times that you decide.
Example: For verification please send me a photo of the watch set at 10:15 and 16:35....
Easy task if the seller is honest.😀
So obvious but really a great idea. I have much to learn from the masters. Thanks for the tip and to ChicagoFrog, so glad you dodged the bullet. No one likes to hear about scammers. Happy it worked out.

Wanted to follow up on this and reiterate two of my points from above (bolded). The ad was a scam - and a very well executed one. Despite the seller seeming incredibly knowledgeable about pre-moon Speedies, as well as that particular one, I found a picture on Instagram of another 145.012 in Europe that was identical (even down to lume markings and patterns). Obviously, no two dials age in the same exact way, so I told him to send me a dated picture with the watch next to it. That picture never arrived and he went radio silent after responding within minutes to everything else. Thankfully, as soon as I saw the IG picture, I filed a claim with PayPal as well and it was resolved yesterday (with the funds wired back into my account).

So the main takeaways - a) if you're buying from Mexico, ask for a dated picture with the watch, b) always use PayPal, and c) if your antenna is up from the get-go, don't let the bargain price taint your judgement. I knew there was probably a 50% chance that it was too good to be true, and thankfully it didn't cost me anything to find out for sure.

Finally - here are pictures of the Speedy. Vision Vintage Watches is the actual owner in the EU, so don't buy one with these same markings unless it's from him!

Really glad to see you came out unscathed. Hopefully karma will come around and slap that scammer!

I am a sucker for a blue dial watch. From the early 1990s.

Still on the look out for a GMT preferably with a blue dial.

I also bought airline tickets for a vacation next month, so the GMT will be handy while away.

Nice Lemania Elvström!
And the compass bezel can help you remember the heading back home😀

One of these. Haven't told "Her" yet.

Well now that I have some interwebs to play with I can post pics.

I picked it up last Wednesday, Annie didn't know a thing so when she got home that night, I had the reveal all set up.

As she walked into the driveway, the garage door started to open to the strains of Richard Strauss' "Thus Spoke Zarathustra".

Only the LED DLRs were on with a strobe flashing behind the car, as the music intensified I turned on two photo floods and hit the unlock button to turn on the headlights.

She really likes it and I'm not going to die for trading her car in 😁

Anyway, a couple of pics.

I think my wife has converted me from a Vouvray junkie to a full blown Riesling addict. Picked up 2 each of '02 and '03 JJ Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr auslese from a favorite reseller.

It's only a problem if I don't acknowledge it's ridiculousness, right? After I posted an Instagram about the last Polerouter that I bought a couple weeks ago, a guy in Sweden reached out (via IG) telling me that he also had a Polerouter but wanted to sell it and was wondering if I had any recommendations for where to do so. Well, we all know how that ended up. No need to list it anywhere because I was happy to give it a home. Should be flying across the Atlantic tomorrow, but in the meantime, here's a picture from the seller.

Given that it has the art deco dial and original bracelet, I was able to justify it to my beautifully patient wife. For now.

And now for something completely different. Bought this one today.
A Minerva Chronograph ref 1335 Caliber 13-20CH. 35mm case. Serial 710xxx.

From WatchWiki:

Introduced in 1923 in Minerva-brand chronographs, Calibre 13-20 was designed as a mono pusher but was available after 1940 in bi-pusher configurations with 30- or 45-minute counters. It was one of the few chronograph calibres on the market on its introduction and was developed in collaboration with Dubois-Depraz. It was remarkably well-developed for the era and continued in production for decades.

Watch enthusiasts are able to recognize Minerva's Calibre 13 by the unusual positions of the pushers: Rather than being located between the crown and lugs at 30°, they are moved toward the lugs at 37° from the crown. Calibre 13 is a column-wheel chronograph, 6.4 mm thick, with a Breguet balance spring and 17 jewels.

Even after the introduction of the updated 13-21 derivative, Minerva continued occasionally to produce (or re-manufacture) Calibre 13-20 movements. For example, Panerai used a re-finished Calibre 13-20 in their Panerai Ferrari 00024 chronograph, branding it "Panerai OP XXVIII". Panerai also used this as their OP XXV in the 2011 PAM300 Mare Nostrum, though perhaps this was the later 13-22 instead.

Not my picture/watch, but the movement in mine is fully signed and in the same execution as this one:
