Shopped around eBay for a Mido Multifort today, and ended up with a few.

I've had a bit of a fascination with them for a few months now because of a fascinating history, and their early (1935) use of cork to achieve remarkable water resistance.

circa ~1939 bumper cal 917P:

Might need a bit of algaecide 😲 treatment! (and new crystal)...
I'm not really sure if the hands are correct (they're quite different from what I've seen), but I think they do look good with the dial...

~1957 Multifort Superautomatic Powerwind:

The Mido Multifort was the first (1935) to achieve (claim?) Anti-magnetic, Anti-shock, Water-proof, and self-winding.

A fellow by the name of David Boettcher did extensive research on the brand and it's history, and you can find his write-up here:

Against my better instincts, I threw away the rule book and decided "nothing ventured, nothing gained." I have a 321 cal Speedy (hopefully) on the way up from Mexico, purchased from a seller with zero feedback and zero US-based references. All I really had to go on was about 20 emails exchanged back-and-forth last night. If it works, I got the best deal on a watch that I've ever had. If it doesn't, I'll be calling PayPal's Purchase Protection department and feverishly trying to claw back my money.

Fingers crossed, and kids, don't try this at home.

I think I saw that one on watchnet, and if legit you got a bargain on a good looking watch. The case, bezel and dial all looked very nice from the pics. Here's hoping you found a good one!

Haha, yep, that's the one. I did a massive double take when I saw the listing / listing price and decided I'd reach out but it would probably be too good to be true. I'm not super comfortable with the lack of references and posts, but he doesn't seem to be a scammer and had no problems with PayPal, even citing that as a buyer himself, he'd prefer their protection program. Like I said, fingers crossed and I'll check back when it (hopefully) arrives.

Lots of good communication, and documented 'information' can go a long way to adding credence to a questionable seller... unless he's a con-man! 😲

Fingers crossed that you 'bought' a good (perhaps foolish?) seller...

Pics when she comes!

What have I gotten myself into???😬
Had the chance to buy a few watches from a collection being sold off. Late last night I bought a "project" that holds plenty of possibilities for heartache and grief.... My first Tri-Compax UG. Solid 18K ref 12253 cal 481. 1946-49 serial.
Scarred and in dire need of TLC. For some odd reason the chrono seconds hand have almost disintegrated/corroded. Fortunately it does not appear to have spread, or come, from the movement. Most of the specs on the dial is actually debris from the dissolved hand.....
It came at a price that reflects the sad state. Now it is off to the spa, and hopefully a healthy recovery.😵‍💫
Anyone has a chrono seconds hand for a cal 481 they can help with knows who to PM!👍

I am curious, what do you mean by Parkerized? I have 2 of these, one from '64 and the other from '69, both in good shape.

what do you mean by Parkerized?

A chemical and heating process where steel gets a rust protective surface and some extra wear resistance. Looks like a flat/matte greyish colour. I would not know of it unless earlier involved in vintage cars and motorbikes. Some googleing would give you a better explanation than mine.
