A Speedy 105.012-66 HF which I found in a barn in my hometown 馃榾

They don麓t come around often nowadays, so one has to be determined when the chance is given, if you want one...

I've always been curious about a Seiko 6309-7040. But I love the Kanji date of the 6306. So I managed to find this. It'll be my new beater watch. Original case, bezel and case back, new dial and hands, new bezel insert and a kanji date wheel. A bit of a Frankenstein but I don't care. I love it. It'll take a couple of weeks to get to me...

Not today, but a recent acquisition. I've only seen one other, though undoubtedly there are others out there.

Not a franken in Seiko world, just "modded". Not my thing, but sort of interesting that the modding culture exists. I really like how these 6309-704x watches wear. Cool piece. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks AAAKK. My collection is pretty much focused on classic sports watches and I've always thought a couple of Seikos are needed. I'd really love a nice condition 6105 and might try to find one someday. For now I don't think I can go wrong by paying $180 for a classic dive watch. I've always loved the style of the 6309s. And I agree that with these modding is pretty kosher. It's really just a modernized refurbished vintage watch with aftermarket replacements. And they are robust enough to bum around in without worry!

Agreed. I just picked up my first Seiko, a wabi'd 6309-7049, about 10 days ago. I regret waiting this long to own one as they make a great beater - big and robust as you noted, but comfortable on the 22mm straps. I posted a pic of it earlier today in WRUW.

Thanks. I was mostly attracted to it because it had the right amount of honest wear to my eye. But I doubt it will be my last Seiko. Probably a more pristine 6309-704x and a 6105 to be added at some point.
