Arguing with Private Seller on Chrono24 - advice wanted

It's a difficult case. If chrono was only a marketplace then you would be f.... Do your due dilligence before buying. If not, you get burned.

But because of the fact chrono advertices with chrono escrow service they create a illussion that it's totally safe to buy. But escrow service was probably a marketing (and money driven) choice, not a choice to take real responsibility for the content and for transactions in general. Their terms and condition reflects this. They seem to exclude every form of responsibility and liability.

But the question is, would these hold in court in the context of their escrow service?

Not sure...

I sent a message to Chrono24 Customer Service along with a link to this thread.

Grab some popcorn.

If nothing happens, at least we can enjoy the popcorn. 😉

Sympathy for the buyer! I try to stick to the "private collectors in the USA" rule, but man it's hard when a watch you've been waiting for pops up in another country. I've been waiting a year for a watch that recently came up for sale in South Korea (via WUS forums), and it's preventing me from pulling the trigger. The price isn't bad either, I've just seen too many threads like this one to take the risk.

FWIW, I've used Chrono24 before and followed the advice from others on OF. I bought from a reputable business that had tons of positive reviews (that didn't appear to be fake). I was able to locate their website and physical location in the EU with some googling, which all gave me some comfort.

Another point is...All this for a $1K watch? When does OP declare “Noob Tax” and move on? Seller must realize this as well.

Agree 100%. It's totally out of control on eBay. "New Old Stock" to me means "never sold." eBay agrees: I looked it up on their policies page. There are many SS Rolexes on eBay selling at 2 x MSRP, and advertised as "new," "brand new," and "new old stock." I often write the sellers and say "Since it's NOS, the warranty card is blank, right?" If they respond, they'll say something like "Well, it's in NOS condition." Great.

The "NOS condition", is what steams me. it's like juice saying 100% fruit and other flavors.
The topic of what ratings are NOS/NIB/MINT/MINT/EX+ has been discussed on this forum before and there are very specific guidelines for this in the collector world (like coins, stamps, baseball cards, etc). These are basically units of measurement- not open for interpretation.

I always liken the NOS argument to that of an egg...you can't unfry an egg...and it's only NOS once.

Sometimes the shot to your pride is worse than the actual cost! My Noob tax was BRUTAL and it was less than $1000. Unfortunately it's still documented on OF for all of eternity, so when I need a reminder not to make hasty snap-purchases, I pull up that thread and it all comes flooding back!
🙁😡::facepalm1::

I just read through three pages of posts and I still don’t know what make/model watch we’re talking about. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many posts about an anonymous watch before.

That's what we, lawyers, do. Try to write as much bullshit as we can and then drive away in our 100k car...

Venom for C24. Any other thread the OP would be :whipped: by now for such a thin story.

$1k would be a lot of money to me... Not to the seller though, apparently.

By the time this gets sorted , the currency, shipping costs and customs fees will eat significant value away. But again, we are all tapping away at page 3 of a poorly documented case because the subject is really a referendum on C24.

If the buyer has the watch, he will not pay more taxes than he already has. I usually pay around $20 for shipping. How that is "significant value" compared to the return of $1000 is unfathomable to me. I - once again - conclude that a lot of members here have a different perspective on money than I have.

Promised photos not yet posted. Starting to think there’s something wrong with this story that we aren’t being told by the OP...

I can’t imagine shipping an item then saying I’d rather have nothing than take the return. Here’s a pic of the seller

This must be a very sad situation to be in, but I really regret reading so many posts without a single picture/model/cost.

As a person who has used Chrono24 just once where the transaction was pleasant, I'd like clarification on what I feel is the most significant issue at hand: How does the Chrono24 conflict resolution process work?

At the moment, we only have the OP telling us that, when problems arise, the buyer and the seller are left to settle their differences on their own - which may be true, but which does not sound right to my ear.

One does not find out what stuff a person or entity is "made of" when things go smoothly.

One finds out what stuff someone is "made of" when there are problems to solve.

This reminds me of the Seamaster Not For Sale thread. OP in that one disappeared too.

🍿

My noob tax was $300 on some poker chips that never came. These days I mostly pass, unless I can fly to the seller’s country or have a friend/relative with a postal address near the seller’s location.
