Can one of you Caravelle aficionados please help a guy out? I am trying to figure out which dial/hand variation came first on the Caravelle devil diver ref 2876 sea hunter? It is my understanding that the first issued in 1966 was the “Waterproof 666 feet” dial and the alpha hands. I believe the “Water Resistant 666 feet” dial and lollipop with stick hands came later around 1970. Is this accurate???
I really don't see the nit picking about water resistant vs water proof at least when it comes to dive watches. The term "proof" as in proof tested meant that steel body armor had been tested by firing a pistol bullet into it at close range. If the watch was tested at the factory then it should be considered water proof. of course nothing lasts forever and seals may degrade over time or exposure to chemicals.
Thanks, I wasn’t “nit picking” in regards to the meaning of the text. I was asking for period correctness if one dial variant was specific to the hands. See below two different examples...
