Very interesting! It is great for owners that Omega have decided to recognise some of these De Marchi watches. It would be great to see the EOA if you don’t mind posting, and what sort of range is your serial number?

Thank you!

The movement is 32.208.1xx, and it was produced on May/10/1972. The watch was shipped to De Marchi as a regular Speedmaster on June/12/1975, and at some point it was transformed to an AS De Marchi. The watch has correct dial, caseback and bracelet.

Several AS De Marchi's come from the same Speedmaster batch, and all of them are high numbers between 41x and 46x, so there is a pattern here.

There is no evidence on when the watches were transformed to AS De Marchi, though there is at least one 5.5mm pusher AS watch #47x that was delivered to De Marchi in April 1976, which means that the numbering up to 46x was already assigned or planned.

Attached is a relevant section of my extract.

Take care!

I much prefer the tone of the conversion here, as opposed to the other AS thread.. 😗::stirthepot::

Hi all,

This is to document the Apollo Soyuz De Marchi, #468, with my extract and a couple of shots.

The extract says it is a Speedmaster (with 1972 movement, shipped in june 1975) that was transformed by De Marchi into an Apollo Soyuz commemorative model.

It is now living a peaceful quiet life in Southern CA. I came from Rome in 2020.

Regards

If this number had faded from wear, wouldn't we expect the circular brushing to show more wear?

Based solely on the one photo, it seems not to have had an engraved number?

If anyone knows the limited number on the Case back let me know?

Supposedly #305 as the movement serial is the same with the one sold at Fortuna auction NYC in December 2018 and already recorded in this thread.

Interesting.

The picture of the case from the Fortuna site is clearer.

It looks correct, which supports the swapped pushers at service.

Also interesting that the watch was originally sold in Paris, as opposed to Turin, Italy with De Marchi. Of course dealers trade with each other, so i am not suggesting anything by this. Just something that challenges my assumptions, which is good.

Footnotes
  • On the 17th of July 1975, in the depths of the Cold War, space became the meeting point of two of the space faring nations, the United States of America and the Soviet Union. Every Astronaut and Cosmonaut were equipped with an Omega Speedmaster Professional and in the case of Alexey Loenov, two. To celebrate this, in 1976 the Jeweller De Marchi of Turin took delivery of a group of special celebratory Apollo Soyuz watches with the mission badge on the dial and a special embossed case back depicting the Saturn Rocket on a map of the world. The back was also lightly engraved with the limited edition number, an I for Italy and an Ω.

The present watch was bought new in 1980 at a large discount when it is possible that the Italian market was a difficult place to sell this particular piece. It was soon inherited by the present owner who left it unused in a draw for many years and only sporadically wearing it. For this reason, the dial is in excellent condition with virtually no UV damage. The owner sent it once for a service but kept all of the original parts which are available with the lot.

Very few of these original pieces were created and they have been celebrated ever since with anniversary editions being produced at 20, 25 and 30 years.

If you wish to contribute to the discussions regarding history and legitimacy, there is a thread here
where your eagerly awaited comments will be in better context. I realise this is a hot topic, but I think this thread is best served by news and numbers of actual watches.

Thank you for ALL contributions. Especially over on the history/legitimacy thread linked above.[/QUOT

I can confirm that I sold me Apollo soyuz number 159 at Bonhams as you thought.
My brother bought in new in May 1980 and I inherited it in Dec that year on his premature death.

It will also appear I a future edition of the BBC 1 program Antiques Roadshow from Ham House in London ....with a really high valuation.

First of all, very sorry for the premature loss of your brother. 🙁

Secondly, it is a bit unfortunate that you only informed the forum about this watch AFTER it went on the block. In fact, I am somewhat surprised at the relatively low result achieved, but I still need to review in more details the specifics of this lot… but in the big scheme of things, I am sure that this sale will allow other dreams to you and your family.

Good luck!!
