I learned a new word yesterday. Bloviate. In case you're thinking it, it's not what you do after eating salad. I think this word has potential but haven't found the occasion to use it yet. It was 1st associated with this US president who, for all I know, might have worn a watch from « Societe des Montres Rolex » in his later years.

The OP's quest to learn about the 'symbol' is making the rounds over at TRF. No talk of salad in that thread (yet).
So what are they saying there? Anyone coming up with a good explanation? I'm curious what the experts have to say.

I’ll be curious what they find.

Since we’re on the subject of green stuff made in Switzerland, and a post is not complete without a picture, below is a picture from a recent trip to Lausanne.

Seriously the most beautiful salad I’ve ever seen, made by yours truly but the farmers who sell this mixture Place de la Palud are the ones who deserve the credit. I don’t usually take food pictures but this had to be memorialized.
Looks very tasty. What kind of flowers in it? 😉

I though thread drift on OF was supposed to gravitate towards cheese, so I really think we are missing Salade de chèvre chaud here and if we may drift a little from Paris towards Toulouse I’d rather like a chunk of Foie Gras while we’re at it.

@Canuck, German hospital food that is designed to encourage you to get well as soon as possible looks more like Hamburger Labskaus.

The best someone came up with is the symbol is a French import hallmark. The thread didn't last too long.

Why would a French import hallmark have the Rolex crown symbol? That doesn’t make any sense. Hallmarks are regulated by law. The French 18k hallmark is an eagle head.

And I don’t know why anyone thinks it should be French. I think the symbol means something in the French language, but that’s just because most of the Swiss horological industry is in the French speaking region of Switzerland— not because it has anything to do with France.

Unless of course you want to go back in history to 1572, when a wave of French huguenots fled religious wars to Geneva, bringing banking and horology with them to Switzeland. (At least according to various tourism info leaflets from the City of Geneva).

@Longbow, I noticed those cheese discussions but those originated before I joined the forum. So I never knew exactly what they meant.

It was very tasty, I don’t know what those flowers were.

Another day... another meal... another plate of dry bread 😁

But to be clear, the care (which is obviously the important thing) is great 👍

are you in prison or a hospital?

Wife: I make all this healthy wholesome food for our children and you swoop in with a bag of friggin Doritos and that’s all they care about.
Me: Yes.

I like doritos, especially the cool blue flavour

It’s on the inside of the bracelet on the last link closest to the case
Upon reflection and assuming that mark is indeed “SM (logo) R
Use of the initials "SM" next to a logo usually indicates the logo is a service mark. The "R" (sometimes ® ) next to a logo indicates the logo is a registered product trademark. Rolex offers both products and services to its customers, and likely does so under the Crown logo in both of those businesses.
