Congratulations on the new arrival, she looks like a little smasher!

Would love to see what designs you have in mind - I hope you'll be treating the OF to a sneaky preview?!

A sneaky preview will come when I actually have finished it.
So, I am making a chronograph design first, because I love chronographs the most 馃榾

I am designing the dial at the moment.
And I have to test out so many different possibilities I have in mind.

For example:
- stick indices vs numerals or partly numerals
- long leg lugs or twisted short or with beveled sharp lugs
- brush and polish
- metal indices or painted
- metal logo or painted
- crown style
- hands style
- 2 or 3 subregisters, sizes, and styling
- typeface
... so many things to test

And because I am drawing on paper, to make this more analog experience, it takes a lot of time!

Also, for starters, I was thinking about buying a cheap mechanical watch, so I would already get the case and maybe hands if I can't make them. So, I could just put my dial in and see if people would actually look decent.
I would like to use a real watch so I could actually wear this prototype and feel it.

There are a few cheap but relatively good watches.
One of them is Seagull 1963.
I was also considering Dan Henry, but those are meca-quartz. But, as a prototype, quartz is fine.
These would be new cheap watches.

Another option would be redialling a vintage watch.
Don't want to ruin a good dial. But, I do have one very lovely specimen with too nice dial. Landeron movement.

I still have no idea, how well I can create a new dial.
A friend has a pad printer, but not sure, how good that technology is.

Pad printing is how most watch dials are printed.

There are places that will make you a one off, or low production dials, if you don't want to do a DIY dial...here's a place I have used in the past:

Pressure Dials, Temperature Dials, Humidity Dials, Speed Dials, Power Dials - Bedford Dials

One thing to keep in mind is that the dial design will impact the requirements of the movement. So for example, a flatter printed dial will have different requirements for some of the wheels in the movement than a taller dial with applied indices will...

Cheers, Al
