Dave- appears that the seller is not interested in saying too much about the watch.

He is letting the buyer take all of the risk by saying "What you see is what you get."

Right with you on this. As I said in my first post-- no mention of the "service" parts-- either he does not know- or does not want to point them out- Thus his "What you see is what you get".

In days past eBay listers were often strongly questioned by the crowd- so this lack of mentioning the Service bits would have been pointed out-- now it seems that questioning no longer happens.

Agree the buyer should mention, if they know, but decent chance they鈥檙e not a watch enthusiast.

Service parts certainly diminishes value, but aren鈥檛 all that unusual. What鈥檚 your take on the right price here?

Of course there鈥檚 also the question of whether it鈥檚 a legitimate sale at all!!

Cheers

New old stock.

A term used incorrectly 99.5% of the time when describing the condition of a watch.

Hard to say for sure but something seems off.

BTW the seller states the serial number as 538Dxxx, which is for a MK1 A386 with a complete different lug shape. I don麓t know what has happened to the case but it look ugly 馃ぎ

This guy is a bum. Sorry to be rude, but this is the second listing of this watch and I did not realize it could be an outright scam; if not a scam, he REFUSES to list it accurately. I messaged the guy and mentioned he could ward off post sale headaches by declaring the dial, tachy ring and hands as service pieces. He messaged me back saying 'Yes I want to sell the watch' and that's it.
This auction could be an out right scam. If it is not, I can not understand why this seller will not just disclose what they have; even with the service components, it is still a valuable watch.

Thanks for that. Very interesting

this has nothing to do with this particular watch but I recently learned from speaking to the Heritage dept at Zenith that using movement serial numbers to determine date of manufacture is not entirely accurate. I was told that the movements were stamped and then only put together as ordered. The only way to be sure is with an extract.

I just studied the pics in the initial Ebay link.
The inside of the caseback makes it clearly a MK2 caseback (with SP 1205 inscription clearlx visible from the bad pic)..
Now, when you tell the cowd that the engraved serial on the outside caseback is 538Dxxx (MK1), this is evidence of a forgerie. May be the serial (probaly a xxxD460) has been deleted first and then a 538Dxxx has been reingraved, which is more than stupid because everyone can see the inconsistency to the inside case back engravings (MK2).
I think that bad tricks are going on here and every serious collector should stay away.
