No doubt there will be an appeal, there are lawyers in Australia saying he could likely get an injunction to stay for another week until a hearing can take place but that the minister also made sure to get the best advice possible to ensure that case will be unsuccessful. Sounds likely it will be a case of injunction -> he plays in round 1, maybe 2, -> goes before judge and likely loses -> goodbye -> see you at the 2026 Australian Open in 3 years.
If he got good lawyers maybe they would advise him to pack rather than starting any further procedures that could result in a potential 3 year ban... And rather, cross fingers that this would be forgotten next year when he comes back.

I think he should cut his losses now. There is the option to waiver the three year ban for the good of the country (ie if a competition brings in money and is no risk to the public).
I really hope he does not appeal or try to become a cause celeb. This whole thing has become a circus and what the hell are the sport governing bodies doing etc etc. it is almost like someone just wants to test public opinion.

If it is a three year ban I wonder what the rules will look like then. If the rules do stay tough / get tougher it is helping me in my retirement as I have a few side bets. Vaccines are no longer dull and are seen as a strong growth opportunity. Johnson and Johnson are another tip... but I would still prefer to see an end to the rules (in a safe way) rather than a big bank balance ;0)
  • Pfizer expects to make nearly as much money from vaccines in 2021 as it earned in total in 2020.
  • The drugmaker expects vaccine sales to rake in $38 billion in 2021 taking turnover to $81 billion
  • The company earned a total of $41.9 billion in revenue in all of 2020.

Typical I think a normal person would be expected to leave pending a review or be held at a location.
If the only reason for entry is an international Tennis tournament common sense says there needs to be a compromise or a straight go/ no go decision..... and if he still appeals and won I guess compensation would be the only route as they could not replay the matches. It does feel like this has run out of road and become a massive distraction. Shame on all parties who have added to the fiasco.

And here it is: the Capitalist way..... If your country has only one core value : making money. No matter how. As much as possible. No matter how to get it . Cheating pensioners out of their pension with Ponzi schemes ? Their own problem, probably too stupid.... That way of thinking leads us to where we are here. Entitlement ; Rules only for the others. Caring for others, even if they are of a different opinion? No way. That's why I think, Australia still has the other side present. Free health care. Schools. No matter who you are. We have the same amount of As* holes like other countries. But many Australians of all ages still care for their neighbours. No matter what they are or believe. So, bye, bye Mr. Djokovich. Deep down he might see it as a life lesson. Or not. Does not really matter to us.

Reporters are saying they are negotiating with his lawyers and have asked him to present him self for an interview tomorrow rather than acting today, not sure if that’s entirely accurate but haven’t heard anything about him being marched to Tullamarine or a rat-motel either

The vaccine revenue does come from tax payers and the pensions are all invested in the stock markets and need growth so it is a type of recycling......as long as the pie gets bigger we can all eat more pie without taking the pie from anyone else ... that is the current system as explained by Yuval Noah Harari.

Maybe for Djokovic it is now time to consider a retreat and some humble pie.

@dsio - looks like no removal pending completion of the ongoing proceedings in any applicable Australian court, so this will run on sadly. I am now still wondering if it will reach the final Tennis court.

Thanks for the link - Also a very measured, polite and considered tone to the fact based proceedings... they should run it here as a thread :0)

In fact it may not necessarily need money. A Djokovic fan with the right access for example.

I spent one evening into the early hours of the next day right next to the computer holding the British Parliaments' records. The computer manufacturer's disk traffic tuning expert and I as the support guy for the database engine were parachuted in [*] for an emergency hunt for much lost performance, and no-one in serious authority knew we were there because we arrived after they'd gone home... I did wonder about inserting some "unparliamentary" words in the speeches of politicians I particularly disliked. Reckon it could have caused trouble for months ::stirthepot::

[*] VFR-750'd in actually and spent the time there dressed in my leathers 😜 The Stationary Office guy who admin'd the database wasn't fazed because he was a 'biker himself 👍
Ok. You got me. Which year VFR?

Yes... always liked the Honda V4 lump!

Part of me wants him to play (at least one game) just to see him get torn to shreds by the crowd. He gets a right paddy on when things aren't going his way. Would be really entertaining.

Might still happen, him playing first round, then get deported

He will be detained after tomorrow’s meeting and then dropped back to each meeting with lawyers by Border force. So last night of luxury tonight.

Probably be spotted clubbing tonight 🤦

1996

The event took place when Bojo was still a journalist, not yet in parliament.

I hope you are not paying (or charging) for that data? It is a year old - a lot has happened since that would need to be priced in 😉
