·Some years ago I sold a small collection of antique parrying daggers and stilettos. This one was my favourite - a 17th century left hand large parrying dagger, 37 cm blade with pierced section and three fullers. Both sides of the blade were serrated for 17 cms. The down swept squared and flared steel guard had crosscut rondel terminals, and pierced thumb guard. The spiral wire binding on the hand grip was original, with a steel turks head pommel. The overall length was 51 cms - almost a short sword.
It was a very well made dagger, and now I wish I still owned it, as its proportions, quality and balance were as good as I had seen.

·Not the least interested in knives from a collectors view but I do love and have need for a good tool. As I am out and about in the woods and in the archipelago, harvesting what goodies there are (game, fish, mushrooms, oysters, silence, etc) a quality knife is essential. I go for rugged, multi purpose bushcraft knives. Scandinavian "Scandi" cut/grind blade with a strong spine (to be able to whack it hard if needing to split something) and yet subtle and realtively small to be able to do some finer work also. Here in Scandinavia we have long tradition in making and using this kind of knife and I am faithful to the tradition - in using them.
As I have a couple of different environments I go to I use two knifes.

In short - I am not into knifes. But I could not live without.

Oh little did I know. As always when I get interested it soon gets serious. I believe I have got about 75-80 SAK: s now. All bought locally and not from collectors. This is a cheap hobby and storage space is not an issue.
Here are some samples.
The real Swiss Army Knife (that is - made for and used by the Swiss army). 1908 model but this one is from 1941.

·I don't think I've shown this one here before despite it being on my belt or in my boot on a daily basis. I used to carry an earlier MK1 for years, but when my middle son showed an interest I gave it to him. After some searching I found this one, a little later production in 440C instead of L6 but a good knife all the same.

·Here is a Victorinox I bought for a grandson, then decided I liked so much I would have another one for myself. It is a nice fit in the hand (4.28in/11cm closed), and has a good spring lock on the blade.
