Any thoughts on this Seamaster on Fleabay?

So is it worth offering $2K then?

If you don't think the seller will chastise you for lowballing him based on his asking price. I sold my 36.25 mm blue dialed 2504.80 for $1250 and it was damn near mint. The buyer couldn't believe how good it was. The 39 mm versions like the watch in question sold new for under $3000.

I never can figure out if it's better to go in low but realistic when the price is inflated, or just to walk.

You could keep an eye on it and see if the seller comes down after several relists. But you risk losing the watch as opposed to pissing the seller off by offering too little. You never know what to expect or do.

Bottom line: it isn't a one of a kind. Plenty of Aqua Terras around.

I haven't seen anything new (or like new, or NOS) in either an Aquaterra or a Deville in the sub-$3K range, or than the stainless steel Deville Prestige Co-axials. Is there some source that has the new (or newish) ones at a price that low?

Does it really after if he does?

You just walk and no harm done. But, he might just say yes!

Well, let me see what happens this evening on another auction I'm bidding on. If I'm outbid, maybe I'll give it a whirl.

That's because the one on eBay is at least four years old and has the 2500 coaxial movement. The newer ones have the 8500 movement and other refinements and, accordingly, the price went up considerably. This particular watch should be around $1,800 in very good condition.

I don't know why anyone would worry about pissing off the seller. He is obviously hoping to find a dumb buyer who doesn't understand the dramatic price differences in the 2500/8500 Omegas, and thinks they're getting a watch that was more than $5,000 new. At least this seller advertised it correctly for what it is; I've seem 2500 ATs on eBay passed off as 8500s.

But all that being said, to the original poster, none of this would deter me from buying this watch at the $1,800 to $2,000 price point. I own an 8500 AT but in all honesty, there's a lot of appeal to the thinner profile 2500 ATs. I'd make an offer you think is fair. If the seller is realistic, he'll make a reasonable counteroffer.

New caliber 8500 AT 38.5 mm on bracelet: $5500 MSRP. If you have a relationship with an AD maybe you can get 15% to 20% off (give or take), so you'd pay around $4500. You could get a new 39 mm caliber 2500 AT's for $2700-ish 4 or 5 years ago. I agree with Lode_Runner on his pricing estimate for a used version.
