Any Pogue experts out there?

I finally bought a Pogue off eBay after looking at them on and off over the past few years, since hearing about them on one of Chris’ (time4apint) early podcasts.

However, all does not seem right with this one.

Firstly, the bezel markings do not line up to 12 o’clock, and secondly, the chrono pushers are loose and wobbly, and the chrono hand isn’t resetting properly.

I don’t think this is right, and I’m debating sending it straight back, but I’m no expert. What do you think?

I have a video of the rattly pushers, but can’t seem to insert it into the post.

Sounds like it needs some TLC from a watchmaker.

Apparently it’s just come back from a service!

Did they provide proof of service? If not, doesn’t sound like it actually was.

Just had a message back off the seller. He says that most vintage Chronograph pushers are loose like that and they have to be pushed harder to reset.

He’s also said that the watchmaker took the bezel off to polish the case and I didn’t put it back on correctly.

That's BS about the pushers. The bezel is just a minor adjustment.

I'd vote to send it back. Something about that case strikes me as fundamentally incorrect--maybe it's just that it's got the wrong crown (it shouldn't stick out)_, but something's not quite right here. I'll second @Dan S on the pushers BS: especially on a 6139, if they're loose, that's trouble (they're held in place by a movement ring--it's odd they'd be loose at all; my experience is they're either correct or they fall out). Mine for comparison:

Thanks all.

The watch is getting returned in the morning. There’s just too many things that aren’t right with it.

The search for a decent one goes on!

Sorry you had to deal with that. Recently had a similar issue (return) with a vintage grand seiko. Even when you buy the seller, in my case someone I had bought from online before and never had an issue, things happen. Fortunately some people here pointed a few things out. I cut down on my DD due to knowing the seller and after talking to him, and actually meeting him I found it was not a intentional attempted burn he bought it from the same site and thought it was legit himself.
In your case i really like those blue pouges myself but as you get into vintage seikos damn you realize there are an awful lot of altered ones floating around. Really dampens the fun of getting the darn things. After my GS fiasco about a week later a ran into a damn near perfect unmolested KS that I like even more, I hope things turn well for you.

I have a Pogue that had a recent service. Buttons should be easy to push with little to no play. Bezel is not that big of deal. These 6138/6139s need some love to get the Chrono to reset properly. Sounds like the service was not performed well and reused parts instead of replacing,

These are very tough to find in top notch condition. Most were neglected. You may be better off finding one that looks good with a few issues and getting a watchmaker to make it right.

May be too late for that V, looks like the OP is packing it up and returning it.

Would have been interesting to see the details you mentioned.

Just a little update.

The watch has gone back and I’ve been refunded straight away.

Before it went back, I had a little check to see if there is ever anything obvious wrong with it inside. Their movement looked brand new, not sit]re if this was due to a good service, or it was a new movement. The pushers were loose and rattly because the spring that should push them out was missing. Even worse and that the gasket on the inside of the pusher wasn’t there, which meant that if it got wet then water would go straight in!

By the looks of it I’ve had a lucky escape with that one.
