Guys,
I'm trying to plan my vacation in Greece for September. Planing to go to Athens. Do we have any members from Greece who can give some ideas on where to go, must see places, etc?
I will really appreciate any input.
Thank you in advance.
P.S. Of course I want to know vintage watch places too...

Restaurants in Athens:
There are a bunch of tavernas around the base of the Acropolis that are really cute/have a beautiful view of the Parthenon at night… They are kinda touristy but are totally worth taking a walk around/eating a couple appetizers at (at night). Whenever we have guests, we usually take them to 'Geros tou Moria' or 'Psaras Taverna’.

Other restaurants to check out

Dionysos: beautiful view of the Parthenon at night http://dionysosrestaurant.gr/

Roof Garden at the Grande Bretagne Hotel: amazing view of the parthenon at night and right across the street from parliament in the Syntagma Square http://www.grandebretagne.gr/en/GBRoofGarden

Ithaki: its about 30 mins outside of central Athens but the food is amazing http://www.ithakirestaurantbar.gr/en/

If you are looking for a nice place to have an after dinner drink, I highly recommend Aigli - also within walking distance of the Grande Bretagne (http://www.aeglizappiou.gr/index_uk.html)

Also recommend hanging in Glyfada or voulagameni - center of athens if very touristy and ppl complain its not as nice but glyfada and voulagmeni is amazing and on the water

sardelaki - glyfada seafood
georges steak house - glyfada meat
tis tis - glyfada meat
ark - glyfada mix*
o proedos - kebob glyfada
en plo - voulgmeni seafood*
grand resort ouzeri
la pasteria glyfada italian

Any island is a 3 day trip max in my opinion. Athens on the beach offers everything an island does. Ill be there the whole month of august in athens, no reason to leave (well I'm going to mykonos for 4 days to get a little savage).

But if you go to santorini....

Restaurants in Santorini:
1800 (in Oia)
Nectar and Ambrosia (in Oia by the caldera)
Selene (10 mins from Fira)
Archipelagos (great for fish)
Metaxy Mas (traditional Greek)

I think we are going to stay in the area, no islands this trip. I have my wife and 2.5yo daughter with me, also my sister is going to join us with her 3yo daughter. So, I will keep the islands for next trip.
I'm planing to rent a minivan and driving around.
How is the parking and traffic in Athens?

i recommend securing a car with auto transitional ahead of time. A minivan would be huge in athens, don't see many around the small streets. Traffic is insane as the drivers are crazy, however i still drive everywhere (small little bmw 3 series sedan). If you can i would use metro (clean and fast and cheap) and taxi or you can even hire a local guy to drive you around cheaply. but if you want to drive, secure a car ahead of time.

I booked the car trough USave already, never heard of them, but they were one of the few to offer a minivan...

We were looking at Glyfada area to stay, then drive to Athens or nearest metro station that would bring us to the city.
