My new (old, beatup) watch from Dad... can anyone help identify it? Ideas on how to spiff it up (without replacing parts)? I'll take it to shop in a week or so to open and investigate...

Beatup?

There will be a number of people craving for such an original and untouched piece.

A new Omega hexalite-plexi plus a good service, all you need and the watch will tick, forever. You do not need another. Possibly one day, it will be on your son's wrist.

Thank-you.

Thanks again everyone.

I'd like to get a ballpark on what a replacement crystal and service would cost on this baby. I'm not ready to give it to anyone just yet (love having it on...) but eventually I'll work with someone on getting it fixed up. Would like to have some numbers in my head before hand. Ebay says 75 bucks for a crystal and I have no idea if that's high or low.

On a side note, I've noticed the crown doesn't have the Omega logo. Dad says he didn't have it replaced but it's maaaybe during a half-remembered crystal replacement that guy did the old switch-a-roo. Does anyone know if this watch ever came without an Omega logo on the crown. It's surely not possible that it wore down smoothly.

Another side note, I picked up a swiss army black nylon band and it looks pretty good. have a couple of nato bands on the way (i really like the extra safety of them).

From the knowledge I gather from this forum, the original winding-crown comes with an Omega logo. One can be easily sourced by your watchmaker and it is relatively cheap. The same can be said about the Omega plexi.

Thank-you.

Anyone have the most basic ballpark numbers on service/crystal/crown? I don't trust ebay I guess...

馃檨 no logo:

I'm on a work-cation now but will soon be reunited with my good camera (for macros) and will get my NATO bands. Here's the temp swiss nylon band:

I would say, service including crown and crystal ~250-350 USD for a quality job

Excellent "engine" inside that from memory - a calibre 565 which was as good a time/date movement that Omega probably ever made (though the Omega vintage site isn't showing that movement for that watch, I am just about certain). And that is such an iconic diver in the history of diving watches. Good luck with the restoration versus refurbishment decision.

Hello........ (MikeF) To find the SM300 at the Omega-base..... http://www.omegawatches.com/spirit/history/vintage-omegas/vintage-watches-database Here is the link to the vintage page. Now type in the search box the following> 165.0024 click search and it takes you to the 1962 first issue of the SM300......CLICK on DETAILS to open up to the Image and information. Of coarse this is not the 565 date movement but rather the 552. The database is infamous for being incomplete.

yes welcome and thanks zambo. yes i went through nearly the entire omega vintage site looking for it that first day. weird that they don't have it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Mens-...211?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23267e8153 anyone have feelings one way or the other on this?

The bracelet looks the same as mine but mine has 1380/237 on the clasp. I think the length is about 160mm. The extension pieces you can buy add about 20mm

Price wise it might be difficult to justify when you can buy similar non Omega ones on ebay for 1/5th the price but the quality of the Omega one is really good.

Thanks MVO, I had seen that entry previously. Different movement and different hands. Those Omega Database Rascals...

http://jiehong.org/blog/2011/03/27/omega-mesh-vs-helson-sharkmaster-mesh/ Anyone tried one of these? EDIT: WRONG SIZE....(and boy, their watches look familiar...)

I'd like to ultimately end up with a true Omega Mesh. Just have to prioritize the spending first. NATO nylon is a fine stopgap in the meantime.
