Love my 5600! How many watches come in matte black?

That's what I'm talking about, I really dig the matte black models...

I had the mighty GXW-56 out today. Here's an impromptu shot of it along with the Dynamic.

I really love the vintage squares:

DW-5600C "Speed", with me since the 8th of June 1989. Probably the most beloved timepiece in my collection. Brings back countless memories.🥰

WW-5100

DW-5200 "Hero", restored.

And a second DW-5600C that i restored.

The last two, together with a rare WW-5300 head in bad condition, were sacrificed for the WW-5100.

What does "restoring" a g-shock consist of, exactly?

Replacement of the bezel (original ones are extremely rare to find) and band (not as rare but still rather difficult), polishing the crystal from scratches (quite a time consuming procedure), replacement of the gaskets/battery, while all the aforementioned provided that you have a module that works properly and that all the bezel screw threads are intact (original screws for the DW-5600C are nowadays near unobtainable by the way).

In other words, getting from this:

To this:

Hmmm. Given how cheap most of them are to pick up (with very few exceptions), is the effort really worth it?

This thread is infectious. I've ordered one now. Give my beater a rest and scratch, if it happens, something more appropriate for a scratch likely occasion..

Good vintage screwback squares are rather not cheap at the moment.

Anyway, i guess that this along with countless others, is just a matter of personal taste.😉

If I’m going to go the Gshock route I’ll shell out the 70k and go big or go home

I really like that GXW-56 of yours. I've tried a lot of big G's and found most of them hard to wear or read. Might give this one a go!

You're not wrong. First generation very collectable.

Thank you! The GX-56 series are quite large (16mm thick x 52mm wide) and it gives me trouble with most jackets and long sleeve shirts. But that's why I like it.

This thread had made me realise I have taken my beater for granted for too long …. so here is some close up love :0)
