Got this exactly 18 months ago, toward the high end of the price range at the time (though it had recently been overhauled). Prices have approximately doubled in the interim.

Lucky you. Your Tri looks soooo nice...

The final price has been 10.625 EUR including premium (so not much costs to add to this, shipping, handling, and not much more). So final "delivered at home" price should be around 10.750 EUR, which means 11.800 USD aprox. (if no customs/import duties aplicable, which means the watch remaining in Europe).

I do agree that the seller could have obtained more money selling it privately or in comission through a good dealer. 8.5 K EUR is the hammer price, the seller must also pay a selling comission of 20% on that, so this guy has only got from the Tri... 6.800 EUR, which is not much.

I think the seller has not been very wise and the buyer has obtained a good piece for a fair market price.

Fully agree. You could make 6800 EUR on this watch by putting it on sale at your local fruit stand. 馃檨

I think it's fair to say that the owner wasn't an avid member of the online forums or Instagram community. And for the sake of his mental health, I hope he doesn't get involved after the fact...

I'm looking for a replacement bezel for one of these and read somewhere that a bezel for a Speedmaster Reduced Automatic will fit. I've studied the letter type and I must say it looks ( almost ) identical.

Has anyone tried this? Or am I wasting my time? Or is there a better alternative?

I doubt it. These cases measure 36mm, whereas the Speedy Reduced are 39mm.

Back to square one then!

Anybody got any leads on a bezel?

Ha. nice marketing. wonder what price he'll end up getting. hard to see the quality of the watch from the one pic.
So, I'm almost positive that it's the same Tri-Compax that sold at Knightsbridge. Easier to see on the IG pics of it, but when you compare it to the Knightsbridge pics in our OF forum (from a month ago), the lume plots look identical in terms of the discoloration pattern.

Recall - that one hammered at 6,000 pounds ($11,500)

@ChicagoFrog It's the same compax that sold at Knightsbridge. The glass is cracked at the same place and the bezel has identical damage. I was watching the auction(and spent two days reviewing the images) and I'm sure that it was won by an internet bidder. It makes sense to buy this watch and flip. For sure were going to see a lot of this happen in the future. The supply is limited on these models and finding on in decent shape is very hard.

Side by side Mentawatches (left) vs Knightsbridge (right) .
I couldn't be bothered to color match the pictures, still you could clearly see the nick on the tachy scale above the 500 mark and the crack on the glass on both watches.
Don't understand why they don't acknowledge that it was bought from the Watches of Knightsbridge auction. At least that way it has some provenance (in a WoK catalogue)

Note to self: refer to inverse-panda Tri-Compax as "Evil Clapton" in any future sales listing.
