Another Remarkable Spillmann - The Hidden Crown Case

I promised to post when it arrived, so here it is! It looks quite a lot like @LouS first one, but the indices differs a bit. The movement serial preliminary suggest production year of 1958. It is 37mm both with and without crown;-) The condition is superb!

that is a beautiful piece. It may be earlier than ‘58 but if you really want to know, get an extract. The Heritage department told me that you can’t use serial numbers to date their pieces exactly. There must have been a batch of chronometers when yours was made. A close number xxxx403 was also one but in stainless.

Thanks! Yes, it is a keeper so I have just ordered an extract. The overall build quality of movement, case and dial is just insane;-)

Here’s mine. It needs a trip to the watchmaker as the stem has come out again and I can’t get it all the way back in.

That is a beauty! I’ll have to try to hunt a steel one down;-) Good luck with the repair; they are well worth some spa treatment now and then! I have found a great independent watchmaker that understand the importance of keeping the vintage patina! No polishing or unwarranted replacement of parts.

it may take a while. Zenith is closed now. They’re very accommodating there and great people to deal with. Usually takes about a week. I’ve heard here that Omega is not so friendly to collectors where Zenith is more than helpful and the Heritage department is really into the history of their pieces.

So now I got the extract from Zenith! September 28 1957 and matching serial of movement and case. Happy Friday Spillmann nerds!

Just snatched my first Spillmann in steel today! Definitely in need of some care, but looks original. Differs only in one digit compared to my gold one. Ends with 63 instead of 33. Will be a cool yin and yang pair;-)
