Another oops watch

There was a lot of hubbub on Reddit about the new sugess release which is a Chinese watch company and the release looks kinda like an explorer homage. Any blah blah I looked at it and then the conversation got into “well made” Chinese watches.

Actually saw a few interesting looking pieces but really the 63 seagull always just caught my eye. So I went through the order process but at the end I hit a glitch I thought the order didn’t go through and I was kind of relieved as I received a decent Covid premium check and wanted to stop the smaller purchases for a while get something a little nicer.

But alas it was in the mailbox today. Actually packaged nicely with the mesh strap, a leather strap that actually doesn’t feel horrible and a nato. So I need to wear it three days, keep it wound and watch the time. I have many oops watches. Anyone have oops I did it again watches? Excuse the lighting it’s evening here no natural light.

I do think those have a smart looking vintage vibe.

The no date is going to give me a problem if I submit certain paperwork dated wrong it can actually mess up both me and the innocent person I’m working with pretty bad but maybe this will force me to remember the date and it build my confidence where I can consider clean dials more often. The Chinese may help me with my memory.

I think that is the re-badged Venus 175 movement, right?

Except for a fun watch that my wife gave me, it is my favorite sub-$200 watch.

The ST19 movement is an updated Venus 175 with 17 vs. 19 jewels, and a higher beat rate of 21,600 bph

I have one of these as well and I like it - I use it as a beater and wear it on a green NATO.

Some people collect Omega, some people collect Rolex, I collect the fruit of drunken late night stabbings at the “bid now” button. Nice Seagull tho

I’ve had a couple watches with the ST-19. They had QC issues for a while but I think those have been mostly worked out. I had one from EMG that was accurate to within 1-2 seconds a day!

if the ad copy was right and the literature with the watch yes. I was just going to hold off on buying “smaller watch’s” for a spell, when I got the glitch at the end of my purchase and then no tracking I thought my order didn’t go through and was actually pleased as it was an impulse purchase nonetheless I always liked the look of these and I’ll be curious to see how the movement performs.

Oh it came with a green nato and as I mentioned a surprisingly decent feeling leather band. I’ll try them both out.

One other piece of trivia - this isn’t just an unauthorized Chinese copy of the Venus 175, then modified. In the early 60s, Venus was hard up for money and sold manufacturing equipment and the rights to produce the Venus to the Chineses government (via Seagull). So most consider this a legit movement, not a fake or clone.

it is absolutely a legit movement and Seagull is very well respected and is itself subject to rip off and clones in China.

I had to drop off the Timex e mail list …. Too many easily digested releases. Hopefully the Baltic is the last hiccup. Won’t see it till Sept. it was too tempting to pass up.

Baltic better watch out- it resembles a watch Rolex made 60 years ago! They may get the nasty green letter.

I keep meaning to pick one of these up! Very cool.

Is the the big or small, acrylic/sapphire model? Amazing they have so many choices for such a great, cheap thing.

This is a watch that always intrigued me. I have a touch of envy, but also too many things in general in my house. 😀

Where did you get it with the straps? I haven't looked extensively, but have only seen it with a fabric strap.

Is this the acrylic / 38mm version?
