It's a pretty watch, but $60K? I have spent a lot of money on watches, but, good lord guys, no thanks.

For a blog that once did an article on the Casio G-shock, Hodinkee sure is working hard at discouraging the little guy. This type of thing is exactly why I unsubscribed. They obviously want to discourage plebeians like me perusing their site as they play to the NYC socialite crowd.

Side point: What is a WIS? I see it all over the place on watch forums. For a while I thought it was just a Watch-U-Seek thing, but it apparently isn't.

Lion Shark... lol ::facepalm1::

The state of social media as a vehicle for "Influencers" to earn a living by lying or exaggerating about their affection for a mass-market product is really starting to get on my nerves. Phonies around every corner of the internet, it seems.

Lion Shark! Lion Shark? Burgundy bezel and near-flourescent orange hand... horrible. 🤨
For sure I agree with the fact that it's far worse than the original, and when you look at his vids it seems veeeery unlikely that this collaboration was born out of good faith...
I like the grey dial, the red bezel to grab a piece of the black bay hype is a bit sad

I make fun of, but obviously no easy task and a bit envious😟. Congrats to them... $900K in sales, likely 450k of pure profit for doing very little. I'd probably do the same if I could.

Like them or not, getting where they are is not “doing very little”, and that’s what allows them to make sales like these.

I agree -- people don't give them enough credit. Yeah, they may cater to the Haute Horlogerie crowd that's spending 100 grand a year on watches, but so what? Clearly it's working for them. If you don't like their content, don't consume it.

Consume it? I think you should create a @BenClymer Yellow Sweater cocktail.

It will consist of only the most expensive ingredients I have. Just need a bottle of Yellow Chartreuse to start...

Perhaps they'll release a Limited Edition Ben Clymer Yellow Sweater soon... 🙄

On a more serious note, I respect their efforts on this (and their other watches), but I feel like they went backwards with this particular watch. Taking out the date and seconds just feels like taking away some of the defining features. Obviously, I'm not part the target audience and the watch sold out, so what do I know?

Their accomplishments as a whole are not "little", I agree, but when you look at what the site is and how it came to be what it is - just a smart guy with an interest in watches and journalism chose to write (positive) watch reviews and share watch news instead of preparing banking decks. Investing in new site designs, better camera equipment, and creating consistent content at a time when the internet looked ugly is what slowly grew their fan base. Is that doing a lot or doing more than the next guy? Is that doing a lot in comparison with sitting at a bank working until 2am preparing decks? I don't know...

BTW, the early video reviews now seem to be gone and removed, but if you can still find the early Ben Clymer video reviews they are quite low budget and hilarious.

I agree with you on some points, but it's always easier to criticise than to build something. They built a business relying on brands' "support" and by being free. To me, Hodinkee is ROI positive, because I don't buy from the brands who pay them ad money, I don't buy from the store and I learn/enjoy from part of their content. Nobody is buying these 60k watches with a gun to their head, and to be honest I feel like these are 60k better spent compared to most of the watches you can get in that price range (blinged out APs/Rolex/PPs)...

By the way, if I recall correctly Benjamin Clymer used to work in the "financial markets" side of the bank. Theyh work hard but have normal working hours. Corporate finance guys, however, are the ones who prepare a lot of useless decks until 2AM because their bosses go back and forth 47 times on the spelling of each word in the deck.

I like Hodinkee, and I like their content, and fortunately it is free. All I am saying is that variety is fun and just like they have articles in different watches and price points it would be really great if they did the same thing with their LE issues...Just so that there is something there for everyone. How cool would that be...I'm a fan boy and can't afford the 60G watches but they have this 3g LE.

That said...I wouldn't necessarily want any watch with hodinkee on the back case. If I had 60G and liked this watch I would try to see fi i can find it without the hdonkee branding. Just like I rather had an Omega without Bond in it.

There are many elegant watches of high quality out there that are not "blinged out" in order to reach this sort of price level. There are even some independents who are doing very good things that can be bought at the $60k level. If you are only seeing blinged out Rolex/AP at this price point, you should really start looking around a bit more at what's out there.

I had three browsers open, credit card poised, and then I saw the extra zero. I had the Skipper but I just did not like it that much tp press submit. I really liked the Hodinkee Zenith but missed out.

With Jack Forster being a huge fan of Seiko, I could totally seeing them doing a collaboration with Seiko at some point. I agree on the Hodinkee branding, wouldn't buy anything with that branding on it (unless they released a Hodinkee Credor Eichi III for $5k).

Looks like there's room at the bottom of the market for me to set up a co-branded Time 4A Pint watch... I'm thinking Casio f91W clone... you guys are all in right? 😉
