I support this wholeheartedly. In fact I would go so far as to set the bar for sellling at exactly 2797 posts 😗

When does the Speedmaster "Tribute to 200 Posts" LE come out in celebration of this?
....just two days before the tribute to tribute to 200 posts LE comes out!

Good.

My interpretation has always been that this is a discussion forum with the addition of a sales section for active members. I think the mods were being hugely generous ever considering exceptions in the first place.

This is a good move to protect members, though as I remember, it was difficult as a noob of all things Omega, to hit that magic 200 target.
I had a couple of watches for sale, might have been Rolex (can't recall) and required an exception to do so.
So as a collector other brands and no knowledge of Omega, my contribution could have been considered post farming.
It will be frustrating for the new guy to the brand but totally appreciate the move.

Really and truthfully anyone selling a Ultraman or ST1 should need at least 2012 posts and that's final!::rimshot::

Finally. 👍

Managing exceptions is mostly more difficult than it is to apply the rule...

I think it is a good move, although it will likely increase the number of veiled "for sale' posts from new forum members. So probably more time for the Mods to police those.

I like this change a lot. I've been a member of a large golf forum for more than 10 years. There is a 75 post requirement there to use the buy/sell/trade forum, but that requirement can be bypassed by paying a fee ($35 I think) to join the forum's "member's club". That has led to a significant amount of scammers and repeat scammers fleecing members in transactions. Despite repeated calls from the forums to do away with the buy-in option, the site owners refuse as they love the revenue it generates. Doing away with exceptions is the only way to guard against scammers taking advantage of it. 200 real, substantive posts doesn't seem like a lot, but in reality it is, especially for a scammer. That would be one long con.

Hi
If your not sure about a seller , selling and no contributing to the community...

You can always look at a members threads....... just click on members name....

Then click on “ profile page “
And you will get the following page and then click on “POSTS”

After reading thru a page or two you can get a feeling if the seller is a contributor, how much of a contributor.... well can even do a “ stress test”... you can then only display threads that the member started.... scroll down to bottom of a posts page you can click on “FIND ALL THREADS BY .....”

Then you can see if you have a window full of ads or some ratio of both.... then you can do what you feel comfortable with.

See below...

Good Hunting

A brilliant carefully thought out informative and comprehensive post.

What are the chances that the people who need to read it, will?

It seems those who get it, don’t need to, and those who don’t, won’t.

Hi @Spacefruit

The same can be said about researching before you buy... But all we can do is show options and let the community hopefully learn from it.

I can tell you it is an eye opener....

Go to the private sales forum .... and do the "Stress test"

I picked a few sellers and the entire first page was all FS sales or Sold Threads !

Best

Good move from the Mods.

Although I was fortunate enough to have benefited from the exception, hopefully, selling watches should not be the sole motivation for a member to fluff up his post numbers.

This should enhance the OF across the board in a very positive way.

Cheers,

I 100% support this change. I have no plans to sell any watches, but anything which makes the forum a safer place for buyers (and sellers!) gets my vote.

But also note to self - start contributing more! I visit the forum pretty much every day just to soak up knowledge but it's time I tried to give something back!
