One small suggestion: using the word "Calatrava" in a sales post that does not feature a Patek Philippe will cause the post to be deleted, and trigger an automatic post count reset to zero. 😁

200 meaningful posts eh?😕

Well this is post number 1371 from me!😕

Best of luck trying to find 200 "meaningful" posts in my, extended, rant of uninformed, irrelevant, 'old bollocks'😁

To compensate here is, yet another, "meaningful" picture of my lovely old watch.👍

Hi @Spacefruit

The same can be said about researching before you buy... But all we can do is show options and let the community hopefully learn from it.

I can tell you it is an eye opener....

Go to the private sales forum .... and do the "Stress test"

I picked a few sellers and the entire first page was all FS sales or Sold Threads !

Best

bill

You're not the only one who has noticed that, and as you say eye-opening

This is a good move to protect members, though as I remember, it was difficult as a noob of all things Omega, to hit that magic 200 target.
I had a couple of watches for sale, might have been Rolex (can't recall) and required an exception to do so.
So as a collector other brands and no knowledge of Omega, my contribution could have been considered post farming.
It will be frustrating for the new guy to the brand but totally appreciate the move.

This is a forum where all types and brands of watches are discussed. I have never focused on Omega, only own two (one by design and one by accident)— and I’ll be damned if more than 60 of my posts were about Omega watches.

Good rule, although it will take me a while to hit 200. But I never sell my watches anyway. 😀

As a newer member who has learned a lot from this community, I understand the why of the 200 post limit. I just want to share that contributing what other established members consider "meaningful" may be tough for some. I have two Speedmasters that I've owned less than a year. I'm new to the brand and this forum. I'm not trying to farm anybody but I hope there's some recognition that what I'm able to contribute meaningfully isn't a necessarily a representation of my intention to be an authentic, if new, member of this community. 😉

Although I benefited from the exeption Rule back in 2015, I totally support this move.
After all, passing 200 posts went by in a blast with loads of fun and education. OF is exceptionally well moderated, with exeptional members. Keep it up!

Cheers,

Max

Well, Mods don’t need anybody’s permission for anything. Regardless, they have mine for this 👍

Another way to ensure folks are not post-farming would be e.g. to add a post:like ratio of 2:1 (or even 1:1) to the 200 post rule (and ignore posts in WRUW). But I’m sure you folk thought of and rejected something like that...anyhoo..

Thanks OF for this space.

I believe if I were you I would have increased minimum number of posts to 400 or 500.

Thanks for watching after us, OF mods team 😀

Question: is this retroactive? ie those who've beneficiated from the exception and have only "sold" till then, what happens to them?

Thanks for keeping it a safe place for the community!

Striving for that would just encourage a disproportionate ratio of "Meaningful contribution" to "irrelevant old bollocks"👍

You mean like the four folks on page 1 of the sales forum... who've got less than 200 posts each, and used most of those to sell watches?

Good question.

And?
Sorry, it took a little time... as I didn't want to condemn you airily.
So I took a scientific apporach:
As the discussion is about posts, every post counts that is
about Omega watches

But what is the definition of "about Omega watches"?
My attempt:
- A direct post about an Omega watch
- A reply to an Omega watch
The last part was not unequivocal due to thread drifts. So I decided that the post had to provide infos on Omega or had to be a follow up still concerning the same subject. If there was a thread drift to Longines, these posts did not count.

So I searched for Omega and Syrte. This resulted in 219 posts on 11 pages.
This alone did not convince you (see above) so that I had to count.

The result is ....

I did not review all of the 219 posts.

Because you underestimated your involvement in Omega!

After 7 or 8 of the 11 pages, I already found 77 Omega related posts not counting the strap advices for Omegas.

So what do we learn from this?
1. Even with little knowledge on Omega as you repeatedly tell it is possible to make many qualified posts here.
2. Don't condemn yourself easily....
3. Don't make assertions you are not sure of. There is always an idiot (like me) who checks them.
