i like the classic air king, missed a deal on a blue dial 5500 once, even the 14000M. but that thing is atrocious, not sure if it has enough 5s on it.

Agree with the general sentiment here, the new one is very... jarring.

I am a big fan of the vintage Air Kings however!

I used to have this one. But 36mm was a bit too small for me.

I don't like the silver/non-lume 3-6-9. If they were the same as on the Explorer I this watch would be on my list. I normally prefer a date window but I find the colors so compelling on the AK that I'd be willing to overlook the lack of date. Older models don't have anything that catches my eye.

Definitely very nice, but at that price there are other watches

I had one in trade from my brother for a few weeks, initially thought I loved it but soon got over it. It's a Milgauss in disguise so is very thick and heavy and only has lume on the hands and midnight. Nice, but not nice enough to keep. Reversed the trade and he sold it.

My opinion is the watch would be a keeper if they swapped the WG 3-6-9 for 15-30-45 to maintain the theme, whatever that is.

Classic/Vintage ones sure. I'm not a big fan of the Arabic dial, but certainly understand people who enjoy it. I think it's the size of the numerals that gets me...too busy.

In the last 3 weeks, I have had a chance to pick one up twice but passed in the hopes that a real fan would enjoy them.

I think the new ones are too close to the new explorer, and the new explorer is too far from
the old explorer. Instead of perverting a heritage line, just create a new line-call it the Sky-Space-Aero Lord, or something like that.

I love the Air-King, but I do understand that it is a polarized watch - with strong arguments made by both camps. While I do agree that the dial is busy, I actually like the chaos of it all!

Photo of the king with a minion. Taken in 110 degree heat. Haha!

I've been thinking of an Air King, and just read in another thread they are supposed to be rather thick. Anyone know the thickness of the older vintages?

does this watch hold the record for most 5's on the dial?

Vintage Air King thickness? anyone?
Around 11mm for the 14000, the 5500 may be .5 thicker due to the acrylic. They are chunky for a 34mm watch but still sit perfectly under a shirt cuff.

Popped my Rolex cherry today with this 1969 linen dial Air-King-Date, Happy Birthday me!
