If you’re really looking for a dark dial, and given that you don’t seem to know as much as you might, you’re probably going to be on much safer ground looking at vintage Seikos and Longines imo.

@ezchap The thing is, you may not be worried whether or not a watch has a repainted dial, but you really should consider WHY a watch has a repainted dial...
In the vast majority of cases, the dial will heve been repainted by the seller because the watch wasn't saleable as it was. Most dials are sensitive to water ingress. The odd bit of water, or worse sweat in the case and the dial can really suffer. The problem is that the movement suffers too, but you can't see that damage.

The Mumbai workshops take a bunch of knackered parts, salvage what's need to make a watch tick (just tick, who cares about time keeping, or longevity?), repaint the dial and punt the whole thing for many, many times it's real value. If you don't know better it looks like you're getting a good deal on a nice tidy watch. When in fact you're purchasing a value-less piece of crud that may or may not outlast the proverbial M&S prawn sandwich!

In this price range, ebay is an absolute minefield of bad purchases. May I suggest you stick to watches listed int he "Recommended vintage watches on ebay" thread, or stick to buying through the forum?

Or of course you could read the "learn to fish" thread, but if you're only after one watch as a gift, learning to spot duff watches like the ones you've listed is probably a bit over the top.
