Am I right in thinking this dial looks fake?

seamaster 1961 supposedly
Not convinced in the letter joining up?
Has been repainted clearly but I’m okay with that.

You are correct. It is repainted.
Thanks Dan. Do you think the watch is still an original rather than a fake?

Well it’s not original because the dial has been repainted. But, the watch is genuine. The poor redial though, in a non period colour hugely impacts value.
There are Omega’s from around 5 years later that originally had a blue dial. If you are seeking a blue dial, I’d recommend looking for one of those.

Yes, I suspect the watch is legit, with a repainted dial.

Mumbai Special. I call it this because India has a lot of horological “chop shops”, where pieces of vintage watches are put together and dials repainted to unnatural colors.

The guy said it’s from authentic watch co with proof of purchase. Guessing it’s not quite a bad a Mumbai chop shop!

Lots out of Korea as well, but this is not as good as the korean ones...

Interesting Vividlily rebranded as Rolex of Beverly Hills... No more Korean redials... I will try and find the sister accounts they used to have to see if they still have those.

What do you think of this as an alternative buy for me? Considerable higher price but better?

Not a lot, it’s a redial again. How much is it?

Must you have a dark coloured dial? They’re a minefield. A silver dial will be much easier to find.

Yes I agree it’s a redial. Just after dark as partner has loads of cream and silver and gold.

If I was offered that watch at £250 I’d pass.

You need to realise that although you may be happy with a redial, no collector is going to say “go ahead, get it”. Collectors avoid redials like the plague so if you’re happy with one, getting validation here perhaps isn’t necessary?

Just be aware, most sellers severely overprice redials as they’ve had to pay to have the dial repainted. However, it has a significant negative impact on value against an original dial

Awful redial and terrible case. Crap, TBH.

If you want to buy a watch like this, you should probably just buy it. If you post photos here, the comments from collectors will just give you aggravation. These watches are for naive buyers who don't care about throwing their money away on worthless junk.
