The charity I would like to spotlight is the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. MS is an unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. The cause of MS is still unknown. Scientists believe that a combination of environmental and genetic factors contribute to the risk of developing MS.

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the brain and spinal cord is used to identify lesions (scar tissue) caused by MS. Typically the more lesions, the more significant the damage is to the MS patient. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease.

For some people, MS is a lifetime of moderate neurologic symptoms while for others it is a progressive disease that can be profoundly disabling and even fatal to the patient. For example, Annette Funicello was a movie star celebrity that was diagnosed with MS at 45 years old, became disabled in a wheelchair, and eventually died from the disease in 2013.

Donations to the National MS Society are used for Research, Programs, and Education. 87% of donations goes to these activities and 13% is used for Fund Raising and Administration.

The reason I am an advocate for this charity is both of my adult sons have been diagnosed with MS and are receiving treatments to slow down the progression of the disease.

Thank you all for your responses, and the fantastic charities you support!

Kip, if there's anything else you would like to say regarding the charity you chose to spotlight, please feel free to. I'll PM you for shipping info and get this watch on the way to it's new owner. 😀

Sorry it's taken me a while guys; had to deal with some health issues myself (apparently finding out you're highly allergic to poison ivy in the 30s is NOT a safe thing, heh).

Anyway, all I want to say is nobody should ever feel obligated to give anything. But so many of these folks who suffer from dementia, or Alzheimer's - really what they need more than anything is just someone who can listen to them talk about the 'old days' - but thing is, it isn't the old days to them. It's when things made sense. Not in any sort of right or wrong way, but in a "I knew who I was when I woke up" way. So all i ask, if you know someone or meet someone like that, just remember, they aren't trying to waste your time. They just want the world to make sense again for a few minutes. You might even learn something - I now know how de-humidifiers were made way back when in Ohio, heh.

So if you'd like to donate, you can at alz.org - if not, just try to remember, these people are our history. And I like to think most watch people know how special that is.

And of course, this is also now written in loving memory of Sean Connery, who I believe is a big part of many our own histories.

What would most of us not give to hear him ramble for a while...🙁

Love to all (mebbe partly the meds talking there 😉 ) - kip595

Wish you a quick recovery! My wife is allergic to poison oak, and she had to go on steroids a few times when it's really gotten out of hand. Not fun at all, and each time she flares up apparently the chance for a worse reaction gets higher.

BTW if you are clearing it from your property, DO NOT burn it. The smoke can cause the allergic reaction, and breathing that in can get very bad.
