I had a watch that had all surfaces like this. It was with me for a 15 years everywhere from skydiving to rock climbing.

I totally get it but like well maintained dress shoes, I like to take care of my belongings to be more presentable in my field of work.

You remind me of an old saying they had in my French countryside ages ago : don’t use this tool, it could get damaged…
Do you also iron your socks ?

TL;DR: Scratches are bad-ass!

To each his own, of course. However…

The manager of a local AD for Lange wears an incredible white gold complicated Lange (I can’t recall which model).

It’s been on his wrist many years, and my God, does it show it. Thousands of micro scratches all over, front and back. The thing looks incredible.

This is a guy wearing a high-5/low-6 figure watch every day, and the watch is ‘perfect’ (JMO) because of the wear and tear.

If it looked like it was plucked from a showcase, I’d assume he wears the store’s stock, like a certain YouTube flex-boy we know about.

But nope, the thing has scars. Scars he put there himself. To me, that’s bad-ass.

I hope I can get to that level of comfort with a watch some day. Right now I’m still in the situation where an unexpected repair to a SM300 would set me back significantly. I hope to find a Speedmaster that has some damage from its previous life so that I can feel comfortable with the damage I add to it.

I wear my 300M 24/7. The only time I take it off is when I'm doing mechanical work on my truck or hot rod. I don't baby my watch but I don't like scratches so here is what I did to prevent them on the clasp. I ordered the same 3M paint protection film employed to protect automobile paint. In the past, I've applied it myself to my Harley. and have had it professionally applied to my cars. I thought if the film would protect automotive paint from rock chips, it might also save the clasp of my new 300M. The film is available on Amazon as VViViD 3M Clear Paint Protection Vinyl Film 4" x 12." I applied the film with the same methods used on vehicles after I cut it to fit the exact size of my clasp. I used an Exacto knife and made sure that there was no overlap over the edge of the clasp to avoid peeling. Next, I used a solution of alcohol and distilled water for the application. It took me a couple of tries to get the size right, but I'm happy with the results. The last application of the film has lasted over 3 months.
