Again, this connie found in China is tempting me.

Was it not to align with local expectations around gold purity? For example, in some countries 14ct is the norm, in others it’s 18ct.

I was also thinking this may be the case so had a look through a couple of early 50s catalogues that I have. It seems that in the 50s anyway Omega offered some references in 18kt, some in 14kt and some in both. The price difference for the same ref between 14kt and 18kt was approx 25%. So I guess 14kt was for the goldbug on a budget.

The dial of that Connie is white. Also: very nice case.

Thanks for the additional info. It's a 2782, a 2799 would have a solid gold dial. I wouldn't consider it at that price point. However: still nice to look at.

this one only asking for 500usd

I’d wanna see better pics of the dial, but if the dial is indeed legit that’s an absolute no-brainer.

I passed it. The seller told me that the dial has oxidation at 4 o'clock position.

If correct, the dial is very uncommon.

I have never seen one before with a black half waffle pie pan dial with gold surrounds.

Omega didn’t produce this contrasting dial arrangement again for about another decade (168.025)

The fonts look good, so possibly a special for the eastern market?

The case is really quite soft and the bottom left lug looks as though it might be bent.

It’s certainly unusual and a talking point but not at $3,500 IMHO.
