Thanks - I was going by memory as I bought it over 10 years ago. Was I right- is the 14763 the chronometer version?

As far as I can tell, same case number for the chronometer. It's just a transition piece with both case number systems.

Great minds buddy! If you really want to extend the life of a strap put it on a deployant buckle. No daily bending back and forth, I've had straps last almost 3-years this way. Usually one of the keepers fails first. May want to buy deployant-specific straps to keep the clasp positioned properly if you go this route eventually.
Ill be looking into one. Although I really wanted to get an omega buckle off ebay for it

I see the difference now- there is also a bevel on your lugs. Mine is definitely a 166.010.
Yep slight difference. Also in my research I have heard people say the 562 is COSC accurate but not branded as such. Not sure how true this is.

Sorry, didn't answer the question - blue all the way.
Pebbled calf looking like above or should I go for something smoother?

the colours are nice, I don’t think that the grain/texture works though
Any suggestions?

A matter if taste. I have a couple of pebbled calf straps and they look great on most watches.

Where did you get yours from?

My 562 keeps amazing time. I thought all 5xx were that way but maybe not. It is my only 5xx so I have nothing to compare to.

It has been on the button the past 72 hours I have used it. I assume it was in a sock drawer for a while before being sold.

A watchmaker friend (not my regular guy) said that movements based on the 550 were "figured out". I believe any of them can be adjusted to keep time very well though of course the ones labeled chronometer are the ones that were and passed all of the tests.

‘‘‘Tis a matter of taste, but a more natural grain suits these best IMO. Smooth grain, or pig would be nice. I have a few faux croc which looks good, but wish they were not faux, as it conflicts with the sincerity of these classic watches. Whatever floats your boat thought. Hirsch makes great ones at good price points, and there are 10 tones of posts about straps here. See if you can find a catalogue pic of your model or year

edit: is it a ‘61? Do let me know if you find a catalogue pic, I’ve been searching but come up empty

I think it’s this one here. Although mine has different indices, I doubt they have a pic for every single style. Says 1960 and original strap is the metal band.

When I had a 14700, btw, I had a seven-row bracelet with those flatter end links. Seemed to fit better.

I like some texture on a cowhide strap but I prefer a subtle texture to a heavier pebble; blue looks spot on though
