Hi All As I'm a newby in the field of Vintage Speedmaster watches, I wanted to ask if you could give me some adivce on the following watch before I will buy it. According to the seller the watch is all original (bezel, caseback, crowns, dial, bracelet hands all from 1965): -Bezel quite scratched as you can see on the picture -Case back original, but polished hence you can not see the 'speedmaster horse' anymore -Caliber 321 freshly serviced at Omega for 560 USD -Holzer Mexico Bracelet I'm aware that the watch is not is a perfect condition. Nevertheless, what would you think is a fair price for this watch (seller is asking for about 5000 USD). As I want to avoid to overpay in case I have to resell the watch at a later stage in my life. Thx for the input!
Caseback has been polished clean, no hippocampus. Dial is a little spotty. I think the pushers look correct (fatty's). I think that is a Holzer clasp on an after market bracelet. Service hands. What about the movement?. We need pics of the movement. At $5000 it could be a winner but hard to say with these pics.
Watch looks legit, but I don't find it attractive. Are these just reflections or water staints on the dial? Even though the price point is reflecting the condition, I would keep on looking for a better watch.
I don't know how to value the bracelet; is it correct for a Speedster? The watch has a lot of problems, which would always make it difficult to re-sell, but the asking price might be about right. The only saving grace would be if the dial is actually brown. Do you have any photos in natural light?
I think some points on the dial. That is the reason why I’m thinking of getting the watch. As it seems fairly priced. Could not find a example jn decent shape for less than 9k
That sounds about right, you'd need a budget of at least $9k USD to get a decent one, and even then you'd need some patience. If your budget is $5k, I don't think you'll find a better 105.012. If you are dead set on that particular reference, and this one is appealing to you, then you should buy it and wear it as a beater. It's nice that the watch is serviced and ready to wear. With a $5k budget, I would probably be focusing on 145.022-69 stepped dial pieces. They are very common, and with patience you can definitely find a decent DNN-bezel example for that price with an attractive dial and bezel. BTW, it's a minor point overall, but there is no photo of the crown, so we can't verify that it's original.
The movement is freshly serviced according to the seller. As I don’t want to buy one at 8-10k, was thinking of this one. Condition is definitely far away from perfect; but could it be a bargain at 5k? only to be sure I would be able to resell it at a later stage if I have to with not too much of a loss.
With a sympathetic relume of the hands and dial this could be an attractive daily beater. Make the seller an offer.
Is this 105.012-65 from germany (Kleinanzeigen)? Was in contact with the seller. Think, you have to see it in real, but if you search this reference and you can live with the little faults (to wear it), it is an option. Regards, Peter
Maybe make an offee for 4xxx usd, or be patient save abit more a better example. I think 5k you can find a nice 69st as Dan S said.
If you want a 321 speedmaster, and you want to spend $5,000, then I defy anyone to produce a better example for the money than this. At this level, a watch is going to have a lot of issues. This watch is cheap enough to obscure those issues with the thought, "It was only Five Grand!"
