Advice on US customs / watch return to US

I bought on Ebay a watch from a US seller which I need to return as it's just not running properly (and not worth the trouble).

The seller usually does not accept returns but will accept it in this instance, and is not used to dealing with customs.

How should I label the package to insure he / She will not be asked to pay import duties?
Should I include a pouch on top of the package with documentation indicating "cancelled sale/ return to buyer" proving this is an Ebay return?

Would it make it more simple to say the watch is being shipped for repair ? (I know it works but I would not have documentation to back it up).

Guidance much welcome,
Thanks and best regards,
S

Normally you should have an option to declare it as "return marchandise".

If not you need to fill a proforma invoice in which you give a description of content:

Exemple:
content:1 watch "return to sender"
value: ??? $
origin: USA

on the customs form, state "return or repair" This should usually not create a customs bill for the seller. Be sure to include the initial invoice to you, to help prove the watch originated from the USA.

Not 100% foolproof, but it usually works

Send it via USPS and it's never checked by customs
