Hi friends

I am helping a neighbour find a nice Seamaster for his sons graduation and have found a 166.010 that seems to tick all the boxes for what he is looking for. It's a 166.010 claimed to be from 1965 (can't verify exactly since the seller cannot open the watch himself). I think maybe the case back looks a bit polished judging from the soft edges around the holes for the case back removal tool, but think it looks quite ok in condition! Pictures are not amazing and I struggle to get better ones.

Any thoughts? Don't want to mess up their graduation present 馃榾 Looks ok? Do you think the bracelet is original?

It鈥檚 been polished but still case is ok. Bracelet looks original. Crown is wrong.
I鈥檓 not sure about the dial. I think it鈥檚 probably ok but I鈥檇 want better pictures as some things concern me.
How much is it?

I am by no means an expert but the edges look a little weak to me. I think the whole case was polished. Others will confirm how much.

What is it on the dial you are hesitating about? Crown I thought as well, but see many of the ref with this type crown as well so was not sure.

Not sure about the price yet as it is on an auction.

Could be, but there is still a brushed surface on top of the lugs

The pictures are very poor. On some the dial looks ok, on others some of the minute marks look irregular and the fonts doesn鈥檛 look of the expected quality. If I had to call it, I鈥檇 say original but I鈥檇 want better pictures otherwise it鈥檚 a slight gamble.

I would certainly not recommend a watch for a friends son gift based on such terrible pictures and resulting uncertainty about condition.

The 166.010 is a classic and looks great.
These are still pretty reasonably priced and you can probably pick up a nice one for about 拢500.
These seem to have been particularly popular in Japan judging by the number available in Japan on Chrono24.
