Actually having a bit of trouble with that. I have to ship it from the US to Canada and I just realized how hard customs are going to hit me with taxes and duties...

Ah yeah. That’s stopped a few transactions for me - always need to factor customs charges in if shipping internationally. Hopefully it works out.

Might be cheaper to go and collect in person, then wear it home... "Oh, this old thing, officer ..? I've had it for aaaages..."

Late to the thread but the MK II is one of my favourite watches. @ConElPueblo gave you the right advice above re checking for a polished case: look at the cut out for the bracelet; compare the amount of metal to the top edge of the case and to the bevelled edge at the side. Polishing, however good, always changes those dimensions. You can also gauge if there's enough metal left to correct a bad job.

The dial isn't the most attractive, but it seems honest. Same goes for the handset. Please don't be tempted to go down the route of a cheap re-finish. You could end up doing irreparable damage if someone has already taken some of the meat out of the case.

Finally, some photos ... threads needs photos ...

Lovely looking watch - di you get that refinished or has the case never been touched?

Thanks. The watch was purchased as you see it. Literally walked into a Jeweller's shop that had a selection of used watches and that was sitting quietly at the bottom of a display. It was serviced by STS and they have refinished the case. I don't know what it was like before they did it ... I'd have probably gone for just a mechanical service and left any scratches and marks ... but he's my 'new' 47 year old watch now.

It’s beautiful. Really nice example. I think my case hasn’t been polished too much and I can get it refinished at some point. Right now I am just focusing on getting it over the border to me.

So the watch came in today (after paying $200 at the door) and I was very pleasantly surprised. The pictures the seller sent me were not nearly as charming as I found the watch in person. The case is not perfect but it is chunky with lots of material. The dial is better than I thought as well and not too faded, hands are a bit rough however. Crystal is actually rather untouched and the Chrono action resets nicely. I’ve included some pictures I could take without removing the back.

Short of the flat link sprung bracelets, I think the 1162 is my favourite to wear. It looks like everything's there to restore well or just wear as is.

Yeah I’m really liking it so far. I have to get a rally strap to try that combo too.
