I had to google to make sure. I have a plane to catch so there was actually a moment of panic.

Isn’t this in direct response to winding the watch backwards resulting in the seconds hand then running backwards?
I.e. if winding backwards results in the seconds hand reversing, it’s an issue. If the second hand does not reverse then there’s little/no problem?

Agreed.

When I have a watch that will move the sun back and forth with the hour then I'll believe in daylight saving time. Otherwise it has only ever been a nuisance.

It’s looking more and more like you’ll have to live with that nuisance permanently. Many states want to leave the time on DST all year round and there may even be a federal law coming IIRC.

it will be miserable in the winter for us early risers.

True that.

Even so, one way or the other then just leave it be. The sun is simply going to do its thing, regardless of the time our minders decree is appropriate.

I'm so old I can recall when they re-instituted Daylight Saving Time in the mid-1960s. Vampires weren't coming out before then and my 9:00 PM bedtime during the school term didn't change. We had electricity before that time so electric lights were commonplace.

Instead, because of federal law, everyone feels like the "backside of destruction" twice a year for nothing.

But, then I'm a well known Luddite.

Back to adjusting time on a watch. I think it was Archer who educated me on the harmlessness in counterclockwise setting of a watch. Even so, I rarely ever set a watch except by advancing the hands. See, Luddite.

I was particularly appreciative of the clocks going back in the UK overnight when my one year old woke up full of beans and ready for the day at 05:10 this morning!

I would be happy to have standard time all year, but I think I’m in the minority. The dark mornings will make it harder for me to get my exercise before work in the winter. And I know this is weird, but when I’m hiking in the summer, it always feels strange when my shadow points due north at exactly 1pm. Noon does have an actual meaning.

I'd be fine just sticking with one time w/ no adjustments in the year. The pedantic part of me would prefer standard time as Dan S says because noon should be noon. 😀

Can't we move the time 30 minutes between DST and Standard Time and be done with moving the clocks twice a year?

That’s called ‘India’

Which for some reason is GMT +5.5 hours.
(I’m sure with a country that is a sub-continent they could have run with +5 or +6 hours)
Always confusing when working internationally with Indian companies.
