AD no discount

Just buy the watch where you got the £6k discount and wear it to the AD. Say nothing, they will know. Sounds like you need to spread your loyalty 👍

You are always loyal as you can afford to be..
You should never have to remind someone about your loyalty

On a frequent flier forum where I'm a mod at, people regularly lament how X airline/hotel are screwing them over because bennies have been further cut. And they've been a loyal customer for a bajillion years, blah, blah.

Greatest response I've seen to that is "if you want loyalty, get a dog".

Personally, I've never blindly given all my loyalty to one Corp entity.

It is well known that it takes a lot more time, effort and money to recruit new customers compared to keeping current ones happy. Yet businesses continue to ignore, and often mistreat, current customers by taking them for granted. And then they can't understand why their businesses aren't doing as well as they were when these customers leave.

I totally agree and feel like customer focus it at an all time low with many transactions taking place on a computer but these ADs have a real superiority complex that I can’t seem to wrap my mind around

I would be pissed, 10. I would have a chat and tell them they lost a customer.

One thing to bear in mind is that not all retailers can buy the same products at the same price.
Generally, if you are shifting a lot of units, the discount from RRP the retailer can buy the product will be larger.
Also, whilst the manufacturer can’t enforce the price the retailer asks they can apply some pressure, at least in the U.K. anyway.
As the retailer is new to the brand this may have had an influence on their stance re discount.
This may or may not have applied in your example, but it’s worth considering.

Familiarity breeds contempt seems to be the overriding message.

My main AD’s had his chance and I’m not going back to play one off against another in a Dutch auction.

When I do make the final decision whether to buy it or not it will be from the other AD.

And here she is

+1.

I once got a £6000 discount on a house.

I happened to be with Mr Bulldog yesterday and the VC ( such a pretty watch) was the least expensive watch we viewed.
You could literally buy a very decent house for the price of each of the Pateks we looked at.

Sometimes, while perusing OF, the title "How the Other Half Lives" comes to mind - not in a bad manner, mind you. Very fascinating to get a glimpse into a world I'll probably never inhabit 😀

(the "house discount" part was a bit tongue in cheek; the discount was closer to £20,000)

Lovely, lovely VC @chunkythebulldog 🥰

Well done @chunkythebulldog nice purchase. A great tribute to the 6087 with cow horn case and that strap is insane

And i’m sure they still made money and gained a customer

Nice watch 👍 perhaps a more appropriate title on the thread should be "I found a much user-friendly AD" 😉 Enjoy!

It's not the best title to be honest but I had been drinking for a while and the creative juices weren't fully working as they should have been.

Bit of thread drift but you might enjoy some of the pieces that the AD pulled out of the safe for Phil and myself to look at.

PS, @Peemacgee that’s the last time you choose the meeting place. A cafe that only serves a Vegan or Vegetarian Breakfast 😲😲

A factory fresh 5131 enamel dialled world timer

Still sealed 5976 Nautilus 40th anniversary

Full factory diamond bezel 5270g.
Phils gonna pick this bad boy up when he wins the Euromillions.

Full rose gold 5204 split seconds

Not to some peoples tastes but circa £1m in those 4 watches. Lucky to see them, never be able to afford them.

Too true, but sometimes they turn into couch potatoes, albeit loyal ones:

Seems your old AD was thinking too short-term on not giving you a discount. Guess it’s a luxury some can afford while the tide is high, wonder how they’ll be when it comes back down someday.

I read this thread earlier, and just happened across this sign posted on the Omega counter at YYZ (Toronto, Canada):

Yes market value around £300k for an unopened one. Client bought it back in 2016 but can’t get insured on it for replacement value so it’s been left in the AD’s safe since then. Bit of a waste if you ask me.

My great-grandmother (who partially raised me), still used her bath water three times: first for her weekly bath, second to hand wash the week’s clothes, and third to fill up the flush reservoir of her toilet all week. She’s long ago survived the Great Depression as a single mother of three in the backwaters of Arkansas.

Point being: some folks remember the down times; others lose customers they’ll wish they’d saved for a rainy day.

Isn’t this rebate related to the duty free portion that is taken off from the “normal” MSRP? 👎

Don’t know, I would never buy from this airport leaving to go international. The sign is new however, and when I asked they clarified that it doesn’t apply to everything... 🤨
