I actually have a Kong (it’s my dogs).
Didn’t work. That thing is ON THERE.
I’ll try to do a bit more research.

Well I got into it. I ordered a strap for it so in preparation I decided to get the ol’ flexy strap off. The spring bars were seized up so I had to kind of pry the Spiegel off but managed to do so without destroy anything.
So I cleaned it all up a bit (years of cheese) and decided I would give the Kong another shot, and it worked.
So as @X350 XJR previously stated (and nailed) it is a 6298 in a Jonell case.

Looks pretty good to me?
At this point I think I’m just going to skip the watchmaker and wear it for a while and see how it does.

Looks pretty clean inside, nice. Also looks like there was a service noted in the case back.
Hard to make out, but maybe 2008?

Yeah I thought it looked pretty good as well (despite not knowing what to really expect).
Not sure what is on the rotor, but I didn't really want to touch anything in the movement.
As for the etching on the caseback, I did notice that and was not sure.
To me it looked like "Va908" or Vu908" so I was not sure what to make of that.
I plan to get a bit more history from my grandfather in the near future.

Serial # points to a late 1962 production.
The watch was engraved by my grandmother "1967" so I wonder if she bought it used.
Or did these movements that got shipped to the US and assembled here tend to sit around for a bit?

So for Christmas, my Grandfather decided that he would give me his old Seamaster.
Great story all the way from Christmas, nice going. I liked the stuff about the watch (am I ever going to look out for tri-colour now - wow) and it looks a beaut inside and out - but the story about your grandpa was even better. Helluva guy to make it to 93, and I'm glad he's near you, even if the hip's a downer. Good health!

Im sure you're aware of this, but just in case... if it hasnt' been serviced in a while, just looking clean does not mean the watch is good to be worn. Oils and lubricants have a certain lifespan that they can be useful. If its been a while, they may not be as effective now. The extra friction can cause parts to damage or brake.

Oh yeah I'm not going to skip it totally.
At first I was not that excited about wearing it, so I figured I would take my time with it.
But now I'm pretty pumped for it hah.
I plan to ask my grandfather when it was last serviced and make a plan from there.
But it WILL go for a service sooner than later.
I want to get it all cleaned up, maybe a VERY light polish and perhaps a new OEM crystal as well.

Like other things, looks great in low light.
Now imagine if I had a few beers in me.
Spoiler alert, there will be a WRUW today post tomorrow in “normal” light.

It’s been great to follow this story. I remember I was similarly nonplussed about yellow gold on the wrist before acquiring a gold-plated Seamaster from the 1970s as a gift. Once on the wrist, I started to enjoy the look and find it a really useful addition to the stable.

Still my only watch in the colour, but I reach for it surprisingly often...

I'm surprised how quickly it actually grew on me. After fitting the strap yesterday night, I was excited to wear it today.
I went from thinking it would just sit in my watch box, to thinking it may get a lot more wear than originally anticipated hah.

This picture is probably the most accurate capture of its condition.
The first pictures I posted were under heavy light, brought out all the flaws.
At this point, I don't think I'm going to change a thing (as in a new crystal, light polish, etc.).
I will however, eventually take it in for a service. But I'm going to wear it for a bit to see how well it keeps time.

Looking good. Yes, that's what happened to a lot of us. Putting one of these old beauties on your wrist and taking it for a spin drives home the appeal of the classic design.

Love the strap choice and you definitely have the wrists for the classic sizes.
Wear it in good health but not in the rain!

Glad you gave it a chance and it's really speaking to you now!
I would be proud to wear it as is, but like you said, make sure you're doing the right things to save it long term as well.

Yes, tiny wrist club here hah. And as for the rain, I don't even like to get my modern Speedy in the rain!

Glad you gave it a chance and it's really speaking to you now!

Will do!

I want to thank everyone again for all the comments, tips, help and insights. They were much appreciated!

Welcome to the old guys club
It looks beautiful and your choice of strap is perfect. You'll be able to where anywhere with that brown strap and you're not going to look like an old man!!!!

If you find you like that strap, get another the same in black if they do one for smarter occasions.

I'm sure you're grandfather will be delighted to see you wearing it.

Enjoy!!!

Yeah I plan to get another strap in black, and a lighter brown or natural color.

Great idea!!!
It's amazing how simply changing the strap can completely change a watch.
I prefer stainless steel cases, but if I came across a good looking gold one, I'd have no problem putting it on a nice tan strap!

It is very, very nice especially with that back story. But don't be tempted to keep wearing it for weeks and months on end. As mentioned above, if not serviced the dry mechanism will start to damage itself. I strongly recommend you get it serviced asap and wear it minimally in the meantime. You wouldn't want to spoil a family heirloom for want of a little patience, would you?

Of course not! I definitely still want to get some professional eyes on it ASAP.
I sent my grandpa an email last evening asking him if he could tell me anything about the service history.
