i received a gold capped, norman morris cased watch from my father for my college graduation, a watch my mother had gifted him upon his graduation. it's not my everyday watch, but special events and occasional smile days; days i smile when i see it on my wrist.

here it is, a KL6312, on a color 8 (maroon) shell cordovan strap.

btw it's the omega that got me started on this crazy adventure of vintage WIS.

i from my grandfather i ialso inherited a gold handwind ulysse nardin, and a gold seiko from my uncle. all make me smile to think of them wearing them.

Well I unfortunately did not make it in time to get it open over the weekend.
The watchmaker (according to the lady) had JUST left right before I got there.
So maybe next weekend...
Did not pick up a strap for it because they did not really have anything I liked that would fit.
I didn't even wear it to the debutante ball either!
French cuffs so tight I could not fit ANYTHING under them! First time I've gone watch-less in a long time hah.
I did clean it up a bit myself. Hit it with some PolyWatch which I think helped it a bit and also just cleaned off years of gunk.
And thanks again for all of the kind words and responses!

My vote is for a lighter pigskin or reptile strap with gold. I got a gold-filled Eterna a while back kind of out of curiosity about what a gold-cap watch would look like, and believe me, it grows on you. Every time I think this watch is not a favorite, I wear it for a day and feel like a grown-up again (in a good way). I think you're going to really love wearing this watch.

@krogerfoot and @kingsrider yeah it is crazy how much a simple strap change can do for a watch.
All those examples look great!

I really think it's just the current band that's on the watch now that is killing it for me.
I'm definitely going to hang on to it, but I can't wait to get it off hah.

Haha I bet he was.
I say that somewhat sarcastically but in all actuality, and from what I've heard about him over the years, he was.
As a mechanical engineer he Joined the Navy in his younger years and then at some point ended up in Cincinnati Ohio working for General Electric Aviation.
Always had a "cool" car too.
Now, hes 93 and living in an assisted living facility and absolutely hating it. It's a real bummer.
Up until a few years ago he was still in Mississippi working on the farm. It's what kept him young.
However he fell and broke his hip earlier this year and that was a real game changer.
Now he's local to me (and 2 of his daughters, one of them being my mother) in Florida.

If he does, I'm sure his grandson would hand it to him.

My father was facing the death of my mother in hospice. He had given me his watch, which I had just had restored. I gave it back to him as a talisman because it was a gift from my mother on occasion of his wedding. Alas, it only winds one way, and he didn't move enough to keep it wound, so I have it back.

Yeah I was excited to get it all sorted and wear it next time I see him.

Or pissed! He might want it back.

Hah! When he gave it to me I asked him "...are you sure?" He said he was and he was just happy to see my interest in it.
My grandparents have been liquidating anything they can since their move into the assisted living facility.
He asked me if I had any interest in a table saw, I didn't, and I jokingly said that I'd be happy to take care of his watch for him since he had quit wearing it. It will always be his watch...I'm just holding on to it for him.

Do bezels like this one have a special name?

I saw "tri-color" more than once while searching.

I think rolex called them "Florentine" or "milaneze" or some other fancy sounding name. maybe the same with omega?

What a great heirloom! It will look fine on virtually any strap, so try out a few and see what appeals to you. And regarding the gold case, keep an open mind ... you too will be an older gentleman someday. Unfortunately, it comes faster than you expect.

Hah! I think it is happening sooner than later because the more I look at it the more it is growing on me.
